Since 1941, Women of the Church Women United movement have held a vision of Christian unity and prayerful action. CWU was founded as a racially, culturally, theologically, inclusive Christian women’s movement to celebrate unity and diversity and work for peace in the world. At its founding, the movement named the United Council of Church Women (UCCW). Women of faith from three interdenominational

women’s groups representing 70 denominations convened in Atlantic City, New Jersey in December,1941 while bombs were being dropped in the world was at war. The United Council of Church women’s first action was to circulate a petition signed by 84,000 church women urging the United States at the signing of the United Nations Charter to join and take it full responsibility in a world organization. The action received wide publicity in the media and Eleanor Roosevelt later involved the UCCW in a conference at the white house on “how women may share in post war policy making”. Such action remains typical for CWU today, as its quest for information, prayerful action continues. Women of the movement affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence in the world.

🌎 Today is International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.

We honor the rich histories, cultures, languages, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples around the world.

Observed annually on August 9, this United Nations observance commemorates the first meeting of the U.N. Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982. It serves as a reminder to celebrate Indigenous communities while recognizing the importance of protecting their rights, preserving their cultural heritage, and amplifying their voices.

Dr. Maya Angelou believed that our differences should inspire understanding rather than division. Her words continue to remind us of our shared humanity: "We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike." — Dr. Maya Angelou

As we reflect today, may we honor Indigenous traditions, listen with openness, and continue building a world rooted in dignity, respect, and mutual understanding.

National Nonprofit Day on Monday, August 17, is a perfect time to show appreciation for the impact nonprofits have on communities around the world.

Here are five things you can do to celebrate and show support:

• Commit to supporting your favorite nonprofits: Becoming a monthly donor can help ensure your nonprofits can provide their critical services consistently.
• Volunteer your time: Nonprofits often rely on volunteers to carry out important tasks that support their mission. Consider offering your skills and expertise regularly!
• Boost awareness: Using social media, partnering with local news, or simply sharing amongst friends can help boost awareness of their work and bring new supporters into the fold.
• Attend or host an event: Many nonprofits host events on or around National Nonprofit Day and GivingTuesday to raise funds and awareness. Join in and show support!
• Thank the people who make it happen: Handwritten letters go a long way. Take a minute to send a note to the nonprofits you support and tell them why you’re a donor or volunteer.

Nonprofits play a crucial role in our society. Let’s show them our appreciation today (and really, every other day).
