WHEN WE HAD NOTHING TO PAY WITH | Luke 7:36-50 | Michael Edwards
Whether we owe fifty or five hundred, we all stand before God with an unpayable debt.
In Luke 7, Jesus shared the parable of two debtors who had nothing with which to repay their creditor. Instead of demanding payment, the creditor freely canceled both debts. Too often, we fall into the trap of Simon the Pharisee—measuring our outward morality against someone else's visible brokenness. The reality of the Gospel is that no one possesses the currency to pay for their own sin. We are all in the exact same position: bankrupt without Christ.
When you truly recognize the magnitude of the debt Jesus cleared on the cross, it transforms your worship, strips away self-righteousness, and compels you to extend the same unconditional forgiveness to others.
