At a Chabad Chanukah 2025 event in Sydney, Australia, terrorists opened fire, murdering 11 and injuring many more. Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a fellow Chabad rabbi, was among the victims. He leaves behind a beautiful family, including a newborn baby.
As we celebrate Chanukah, we must choose light over darkness and shine even brighter. Let us fulfill Rabbi Eli’s wish - in the face of increasing darkness, "be more Jewish, act more Jewish, and appear more Jewish." Let us be strong and hold our heads high. If you weren’t planning on joining a community Chanukah event, now is the time to do it.
May G-d provide comfort to the families who lost their loved ones in this horrific attack and may the injured have a speedy and complete recovery.

Please join Chabad Israel Center of Staten Island tonight at 6pm for an outdoor Chanukah menorah lighting.
In front of 2535 Victory Boulevard (opposite the NYPL Library)

The NYPD will be present for increased security.

Happy Chanukah!

Elul is the 12th and final month in the Jewish calendar (the sixth month counting from Nisan). Leading up to the High Holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, it is a month that connects the past year with the coming year—a time when we reflect on where we stand and where we should be going.

Every day of Elul we blow the shofar, give additional charity, and recite special Psalms. In the final days of Elul, we rise early to say Selichot, prayers asking G‑d for forgiveness.

Women are invited to prepare for the month of Elul

גליון 2000!
Sichat HaShavua, the largest Shabbat publication, marks a major milestone as they celebrate the release of their 2,000 issue. Launched nearly 40 years ago, the widely popular weekly is staple in thousands of shuls and home throughout Israel and the entire world. The publication is translated and distributed weekly in English, Russian, and French. The Hebrew edition alone is printed in 180,000 copies each week bringing Torah, Chassidut, stories and Jewish values to all segments of Israeli/Hebrew speaking society in an accessible and engaging style.
Back in Adar 5766 (March 2006) when Sichat HaShavua released its 1000th issue, our Chabad center began a project to print the weekly Torah portion newsletter here in America and mail it out to our community bringing this quality publication straight to their homes to read and learn over Shabbat. It is also distributed to 10 shuls throughout Staten Island. With thanks to the support of a weekly sponsor, for over 19 years we have not missed a single week!
In addition, we mail out the L’chaim, a weekly publication in English, produced by Lubavitch Youth Organization in NYC.
We thank all our sponsors over the years who continue to learn and read these words of Torah and support this project.
To be added to our mailing list to receive Sichat HaShavua in Hebrew or the L’chaim in English, please email [email protected].
