IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE

Life is said to be a continually open school. Every day, we may learn something new from anyone or anything, from people and from Creation. Reading the words of the Lord Jesus Christ that “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35) has always given me great pleasure and satisfaction. In my fifty years of service, I have learned the depth and beauty of this divine truth, seeing how people from different walks of life have approached me and, with great pleasure, have entrusted to me sums to be distributed to the needy.

Those who have received such silent gifts have been showered with immense beneficence. In the meantime, I have seen a silent, inexplicable inner peace and joy in the eyes of the givers. It is a joy which, consciously or unconsciously, makes them imitators of the Creator, our Heavenly Father, as well as of the sun that shines upon our world, the springs that flow with fresh water, the trees that bear fruit, and the flowers that exude their fragrance.

The reason I reflect on the blessing of giving is that, on Mother’s Day this year, the Pastor and Board of Trustees of St. Illuminator’s Cathedral generously donated to the needy in Lebanon. We posted a video on Crossroads highlighting their benevolence. This, in turn, moved the heart of a lady to express her love in action by making a substantial donation to be used on Father’s Day for the same purpose.

She is a modest lady with a modest income, yet she is rich in heart.

What a caring and sharing gesture, one that brings the earth closer to heaven and brings the benefits enjoyed by creation closer to the Creator, from whom come “every good gift and every perfect gift” (James 1:17).

Whenever we initiate a new program, it gives me tremendous joy when community members, near and far, respond positively to initiatives—whether spiritual, cultural, or charitable—and support them both morally and materially, thereby giving us renewed enthusiasm to continue our mission for the betterment of our communities and for the glory of our compassionate Almighty Lord.

Let us all express our heartfelt gratitude to our fathers on Father’s Day, but most especially to our Heavenly Father, who loves, cares, understands, forgives, and rejoices in seeing His children mirror His true essence: love.

ԱՒԵԼԻ ԼԱՒ Է ՏԱԼԸ, ՔԱՆ ԱՌՆԵԼԸ

Արդար կերպով ըսուած է, թէ կեանքը շարունակական բաց դպրոց մըն է։ Ամէն օր նոր բան կը սորուինք բոլորէն եւ ամէն բանէ՝ մարդ արարածներէն մինչեւ ստեղծագործութեան տարրերը։ Միշտ մեծ հաճոյքով եւ սրտի խոր գոհունակութեամբ կարդացած եմ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի այն խօսքը, թէ «աւելի լաւ է տալը, քան առնելը» (Գործք 20.35)։ Աւելի քան յիսուն տարիներու եկեղեցականի փորձառութեանս ընդմէջէն մեր Տիրոջ յայտնած այս ճշմարտութեան խորքն ու գեղեցկութիւնը առաւել եւս զգացած եմ, ամէն անգամ երբ կեանքի տարբեր բնագաւառներէն անձեր մօտենալով ինծի, մեծ հաճոյքով գումար մը վստահած են, որպէսզի բարեսիրական նպատակի համար գործածեմ։

Անոնք որոնք նուէրը ստացած են, բնականաբար ուրախութեամբ ողողուած է անոնց կեանքը, սակայն ինչ որ զիս զարմացուցած է այն է, որ լուռ եւ անբացատրելի խաղաղ երջանկութիւն մը նկատած եմ նուիրատուներու աչքերուն մէջ։ Ուրախութիւն մը, որ գիտակցաբար թէ անգիտակցաբար կը բխի այն իրողութենէն, որ կը նմանին առատաբաշխ Արարիչ՝ մեր Երկնաւոր Հօր, երկնքի մէջ շողացող արեւուն՝ որ կը լուսաւորէ մեր կեանքը, աղբիւրներուն՝ որոնք զուլալ ջուր կը բխեն, ծառերուն՝ որոնք պտուղ կը պարգեւեն եւ ծաղիկներուն՝ որոնք իրենց բոյրը կը սփռեն, միշտ կեանք, բարութիւն եւ գեղեցկութիւն բաշխելով առանց որեւէ ակնկալութեան։

Պատճառը որ այս մասին կը խօսիմ այն է, թէ՝ Մայրերու տօնին առթիւ Սուրբ Լուսաւորիչ Մայր եկեղեցւոյ Հովիւ եւ Հոգաբարձութեան կատարած նուիրատուութիւնը՝ Լիբանանի կարիքաւոր ընտանիքներուն, որուն անդրադարձած էինք մեր շաբաթօրեայ Crossroads լրատուին մէջ, խանդավառած էր հաւատացեալ բարեպաշտուհի մը, որ իր կարգին շօշափելի նուէր մը կատարեց, այս պարագային Հայրերու տօնին առթիւ նոյն նպատակին համար։

Նուիրատուն համեստ տիկին մըն է, համեստ եկամուտով, սակայն հարուստ սրտով։
Արդարեւ, ազնուական արարք մըն է ասիկա, որ երկիրը երկնքին կը մօտեցնէ եւ արարածները՝ Արարիչին, որմէ կը բխին բոլոր բարի եւ կատարեալ պարգեւները, ինչպէս կ՛ըսէ Յակովբոս Առաքեալ (Յակ 1.17)։

Անկեղծ ըսած, ինծի մեծ հրճուանք եւ քաջալերանք կը պատճառէ երբ տեսնեմ, թէ ինչպէս Ազգային Առաջնորդարանի մեր ձեռնարկած բոլոր ծրագիրները՝ հոգեւոր, մշակութային թէ բարեսիրական, գնահատանքի կ՚արժանանան մօտակայ թէ հեռաւոր մեր պատուական ժողովուրդի զաւակներուն կողմէ, որով առաւել խանդավառութեամբ կը շարունակենք մեր առաքելութիւնը ի խնդիր մեր համայնքներու յառաջդիմութեան ու հզօրացման, եւ ի փառս Ամենակալ Աստուծոյ։

Ուստի, Հայրերու տօնին առթիւ լիակատար սրտով մեր երախտագիտութիւնը յայտնենք մեր հայրերուն, հոգեւոր հայրերուն, բայց մանաւանդ Երկնաւոր Հօր, որ անհատնում կերպով կը սիրէ ու կը հոգայ, կը համբերէ ու կը ներէ, բայց նաեւ կ՛ուրախանայ, տեսնելով որ իր զաւակները կը ցոլացնեն Աստուածային էութիւնը՝ ՍԷՐԸ։

Հինգշաբթի, 4 Յունիսին, Թեմիս բարեջան Առաջնորդ՝ Գերշ. Տ. Անուշաւան Արքեպիսկոպոս, մասնակցեցաւ «"Նստած օտարականի պէս. Եւագր անապատին մէջ եւ անդին» գիտաժողովի առաջին օրուան։ Գիտաժողովը կազմակերպուած էր Ս. Ներսէս ճեմարանին կողմէ (Արմոնք, Նիւ Եորք)։ Եռօրեայ գիտաժողովին մասնակցեցան 20 գիտնականներ Հիւսիսային Ամերիկայէն եւ Եւրոպայէն։

Առաջին նիստին, Անուշաւան Սրբազան ներկայացուց իր դասախօսութիւնը՝ «Եւագրը Ներսէս Արքեպիսկոպոս Լամբրոնացիի «Սաղմոսներու մեկնութեան» մէջ»։ Սրբազան Հայրը անդրադարձաւ այն իրողութեան, որ բանասէրները, 5-րդ դարէն մինչեւ 14-րդ դարու հայ մատենագրութեան մէջ Եւագրի ազդեցութիւն շեշտելով, իրենց ուշադրութենէն վրիպած է Ներսէս Լամբրոնացիի պարագան։ Սրբազան Հայրը, զուգահեռ գծելով երկու սուրբերու կեանքին մէջ, լսարանին ներկայացուց այն մէջբերումները, զորս Լամբրոնացի կատարած է իր լայնածաւալ մեկնութեան հատորին մէջ եւ հանգամանօրէն անդրադարձաւ անոնց։

On Thursday, June 4, His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, participated in the first day of sessions of the conference "'Sitting as a Stranger': Evagrius in the Desert and Beyond," organized by St. Nersess Seminary (Armonk, New York). Twenty scholars from the United States and Europe participated in this three-day conference.
Archbishop Anoushavan was the opening presenter in the first session with the paper "Evagrius in Archbishop Nerses Lambronatsi's Commentary on the Psalms." His Eminence referred to the fact that scholars have completely overlooked the case of Nerses Lambronatsi, the prominent ecclesiastic and scholar of the twelfth century, in their discussions on Evagrius' influence upon Armenian literature in the fifth through the fourteenth centuries. He introduce Lambronatsi's references to Evagrius in his extensive commentary and analyzed them while making parallels between the life of both saints.

On Sunday, June 7, Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, will participate in the Divine Liturgy at Sts. Vartanantz Church in Providence, Rhode Island. Afterwards, the Prelate will participate in the annual church picnic.

Երեքշաբթի, 2 Յունիսին, Թեմիս բարեջան Առաջնորդ՝ Գերշ. Տ. Անուշաւան Արքեպիսկոպոս, ընդունեց այցելութիւնը Յունաստանի Թեմի Առաջնորդ՝ Գերշ. Տ. Սահակ Եպիսկոպոսի։ Տեղի ունեցաւ մտքերու շահեկան փոխանակութիւն երկու թեմերու աշխատանքներուն եւ ազգային զանազան հարցերու շուրջ։
On Tuesday, June 2, His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, received the visit of His Grace Bishop Sahag, Prelate of Greece, with whom he had a productive meeting about the activities of both Prelacies and discussed about issues concerning Armenian life.
