MAS Youth Center is the first Muslim youth center in the country, which means our programs and services aim to serve the youth in ways that are targeted to their wants, needs and struggles living as Muslim young people in America. Our programs include sports leagues, sisters halaqas and parties, beach and skiing trips, classes, in-house therapy, substance abuse programs, marital workshops and counseling, and much, much, more. We identify ourselves as a movement of American youth and young adults who aspire to answer the call of our Creator as put forward in the Divine Scriptures:

"And from among you there must be a party who invite people to all that is good and enjoin the doing of all that is right and forbid the doing of all that is wrong. (Al-Quran 3:104)

We work with young people to inspire them to understand, apply, and advocate divinely ordained values in the service of the common good. Our core values are service, equality, and justice. Our programs engage young people, ages 5 to 30, through educational, spiritual, recreational, and social activities. These programs are designed and run by the youth, with the guidance of mentors who share their experiences and provide valuable feedback.

📸 THE MYC ARCHIVES 📸 | MYC Yearly Program Plan, 1999

Look at what we found! This bilingual schedule from 1999 lists a family camp in Pennsylvania, youth and family picnics, a training workshop for Islamic school teachers, and the Annual Conference that November.

But look closer at where the youth halaqat were held: Thursdays at Musab Mosque and Fridays after Maghrib at Dawood Mosque. That was two years before there was a single MAS center anywhere in the country. With no building of their own, our community gathered wherever doors were opened to them, and kept the halaqat going week after week.

From borrowed spaces to our own home, a quarter century of impact, and the best is yet to come. ✨

Our 25th Anniversary Gala is officially sold out, but you can still be part of the next 25 years by donating at masyc.org/gala

Were you at any of these programs in 1999? Tell us in the comments! 👇

Some places teach you. Some places raise you. For 25 years, MYC has done both.

It’s where faith first felt like ours, where strangers became brothers and sisters, and where generations of Brooklyn’s youth found a home they keep coming back to.

Our gala is SOLD OUT 🙏 but you can still be part of this legacy.

Every gift keeps these doors open for the next generation. A quarter century of impact, and the best is yet to come, Insha’Allah. 🤲
