Su presencia y amor inspiraron a innumerables personas a lo largo de su vida y las semillas de fe que sembró seguirán dando frutos incluso cuando regrese a casa. Ha nacido un bebé

El 9 de mayo de 2024, nació un nuevo bebé en la Iglesia Luterana de Adviento en Manhattan, en la calle 93 y Broadway. El bebé fue llamado. "Mi casa es tu casa". Este ministerio nació con la colaboración del Pastor Fabian Arias de la Iglesia Luterana de San Pedro en la calle 67 y Lexington. Es una Clínica de Inmigración donde invitamos a personas de la comunidad y fuera de la comunidad, donde asistimos y tomamos sus preguntas y las contestamos aprendiendo de las de otras personas.

Los jueves de cada semana, nos reunimos de 5 a 7 p. m., donde comenzamos con un servicio religioso, damos gracias a Dios por cada persona y familia, y terminamos ofreciendo la comunión a la que todos están invitados sin importar sus creencias o fe religiosa. Invitamos a todos a participar de la comunión porque esta no es la mesa de Adviento ni es una mesa luterana sino es la mesa de Jesús, y TODOS estamos invitados a participar de la eucaristía. A continuación, se da una charla dada por uno de los abogados expertos donde se explican los principales temas sobre inmigración, permisos de trabajo, visas juveniles, asilo, libertad condicional, etc. A esto le sigue una sesión de preguntas y respuestas, durante la cual todos aprenden de los demás y reciben asesoramiento de un experto sobre sus casos. Finalizamos la actividad compartiendo ropa, comida, móviles, etc.

En este ministerio, he sido testigo una vez más de qué se trata la comunidad y la camaradería y lo que significa empatizar con cientos de personas con sus transgresiones, dolores y problemas que encuentran durante y después de cruzar nuestras fronteras. Acoso sexual, violencia, extorsión, humillación, hambre, sed, falta de dinero, de ropa y racismo incluso por parte de nuestros hermanos y hermanas que podrían tener un estatus migratorio legal aquí.

Agradezco al pastor Arias y a sus voluntarios por elegir a La Iglesia Luterana de Adviento para hacer este fantástico trabajo y a nuestra propia pastora Danielle Miller por abrir nuestro espacio a este ministerio invaluable y muy necesario.

A new baby was born

On May 9th, 2024, a new baby was born at Advent Lutheran Church in Manhattan, at 93rd St. and Broadway. The baby was named “Mi casa es tu casa.” My house is your house. This ministry was born with the collaboration of Pastor Fabian Arias from Saint Peter Lutheran Church at 67th and Lexington, and it is an Immigration Clinic where we invite people from the community and outside the community and attend it and ask their questions and learn from other people's issues.

Every week, on Thursdays, we meet from 5-7 PM, where we begin with a religious service, thank God for each person and family, and finish with a communion to which all are invited regardless of their religious beliefs or faith. We invite everyone to participate in the communion because this is not an Advent Table or a Lutheran table but Jesus’s table, and we ALL are invited to attend. Following that, a talk from one of the expert lawyers explains the main issues about immigration, work permits, juvenile visas, asylum, parole, etc. This is followed by a questions-and-answers session, during which everyone learns from others and receives expert advice on their cases. We finish the activity by sharing clothing, meals, cell phones, etc.

In this ministry, I have witnessed once more what community and camaraderie are about and what it means to empathize with hundreds of people with their transgressions, pains, and the troubles they encounter during and after they cross our borders. Sexual harassment, violence, extortion, humiliation, hunger, thirst, lack of money, clothing, and racism even from our brothers and sisters that might have a legal immigration status here.

I command Pastor Arias and his volunteers to choose Advent Lutheran Church for doing this fantastic work and our own Pastor Danielle Miller for opening our space to this invaluable and very needed ministry.
