All Souls NYC We are a welcoming Unitarian Universalist community for spiritual growth, justice, and service in New York City. 🌟 Join us Sundays at 11:15 am!

We are a LGBTQ+ Welcoming Congregation, dedicated to creating a world of justice and equity for everyone. In the experience of worship, we gather to contemplate the mystery of God, interpret the wisdom of religion, and explore the insights of science. Our purpose is to awaken our sense of the sacred and renew our resolve to transform ourselves and our world. As human beings, we all emerge from the same Source and share the same Destiny. As a community of faith, we make shared commitments and offer mutual support. As indivi­duals, we each bear responsibility for our own beliefs and actions. We practice a discipline of gratitude, by which we acknowledge our utter dependence on the people and world around us, and we practice an ethic of gratitude, by which we accept our obligation to nurture others, and to pursue justice for all living beings.

Rev. Robin Tanner, president of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association, joined community activists and faith leaders last week at a site where ICE plans to hold immigrant families and unaccompanied children.

“‘We lament the childhood moments that detention will interrupt: a familiar bedtime, a classroom full of friends, a meal around a family table, the freedom to play without fear, graduation, a birthday,’ said the Rev. Tanner.”

The witness of Rev. Tanner and the others who held vigil exemplifies the faithful dissent affirmed in the Unitarian Universalist Association's recent statement, putting our commitments to human dignity and justice into practice.

Seekers and changemakers, you’re invited! What does it mean to become a source of change in a fractured world? Join Laura Pedersen & David Rockefeller Jr. this Sunday at All Souls NYC for their sermon "Being The Change."

Rather than waiting for external circumstances to shift, we consider how to actively embody our values in a fractured world. This requires bridging the intellectual, rational history of Unitarianism with the emotional, heart-centered theology of Universalism. Ultimately, we envision a congregation grounded in reason, love, civility, and curiosity—a community not merely capable of adapting to change, but acting as the very source of the transformation we seek.

What does it mean to be fully awake to the suffering of the world—and to stay in it anyway, out of love?

Venerable Losang Gendun will reflect on the role of a "bodhisattva": not a distant saint, but anyone who trains in generosity, integrity, patience, energy, focus, and wisdom, then brings that training into ordinary life. His sermon will explore how quiet contemplation leads to engagement with the world and love for all beings.

After the service, stay for a Teaching and Practice at 1:30 PM in Reidy Friendship Hall for an opportunity to dive deeper into these teachings through reflection and practice.

We’re delighted to share an extraordinary evening with our long-time partners at Musica Viva NY here in our sanctuary!

Musica Viva NY presents the young artists of two of the world's great opera houses. Bringing together artists from the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and Teatro Real's Crescendo Program, this unique collaboration offers a glimpse of opera's future through its most promising voices.

The program has been curated by Musica Viva NY Artistic Director Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, who will also accompany the singers in select repertory. Musica Viva NY soloists will join the young artists for the evening's ensemble finale.

What does it mean to live our faith when conscience calls us to act?

On September 17, the Rev. Sara LaWall, minister of the Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, addressed the court at her sentencing following her conviction for misdemeanor trespassing. She was arrested in April after remaining in Idaho Gov. Brad Little’s office after closing while seeking to advocate with others about legislation affecting transgender Idahoans.

In her sentencing statement, Rev. LaWall reflects on the Unitarian Universalist tradition of dissent, the call to protect human dignity and civil liberties, and her decision to engage in civil disobedience as an act of faithful witness.

“I could not, in good conscience, sacrifice my moral and religious integrity for the comfort of obeying the state and allowing these injustices to go unanswered,” she told the court.
