Two weeks ago, our office had the opportunity to host a young adult delegation made up of 16 young adults for the High Level Political Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals. We posted an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals under review and an introduction to each of our delegates, but we wanted to take some time to reflect on such a special week.

Our delegation came from all over the country, from coast to coast and everywhere in between, from different places in their faith journeys, and different understandings of the United Nations, but all united by one thing: a heart for justice and faith in advocacy. We were so blessed to be able to see their faith blossom as they learned about the SDGs, how the agenda for 2030 is going, and advocated for communities around them. We participated in a silent prayer vigil for Gaza, remembering the 1000 days since October 7, 2023. We held a discernment workshop with Reverend Chris Palmer and Katherine Ellis and learned about volunteerism and the state of the SDGs in the United States from the Commission on Voluntary Service and Action.

A huge thank you to our delegation for their participation and advocacy. Thank you to our ecumenical partners for providing support and passes so our delegates could access the United Nations. A very special thank you to Presbyterian Women for providing passes as well! We also owe a huge thank you to the Church of the Covenant, Broadway Presbyterian Church, and the Presbytery of New York City for providing accommodations for delegates and financial support. This delegation would not have been possible without the support of local congregations and the synods around the country. We also owe a special thank you to Kristen Gaydos, who took beautiful photos of our delegation! The future of the church is looking bright!

As we begin a New Year, let us reflect on the trailblazers who made 2025 special. On December 10th, 2025, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) named 5 individuals and climate activists as the 2025 Champions of the Earth. These 5 exceptional leaders show that change can and should be made. Each has been awarded its own category: Entrepreneurial Vision, Science and Innovation, Inspiration and Action, Lifetime Achievement, and Policy Leadership. Today is International Migrants Day. We recognize and uplift the work done by migrants all around the world!

Not enough is being done to protect migrants around the world. It must be a safer and more welcoming process.

Today is Human Rights Day. The Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations has a long history in the global community. Active in the United Nations since its formation in 1945, the church has held special consultative status through the U.N. Economic and Social Council since 1998. This allows the Presbyterian voice to be heard by the global audience and contribute to its agenda by attending conferences, making statements, and taking part in advocacy and networking.

Amid the restless spirits and often-tough diplomacy of the United Nations, the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations helps inspire, equip, and connect Presbyterians for ministry as faithful disciples of Jesus in the global community. We educate with the hope of helping individuals live out God’s call in Christ to live with compassion, seek peace, and pursue justice wherever they go.
