It is with profound sadness that we join the Granby family, the First Baptist Church of Bronxville family, and the wider community in mourning the death of the Rev Lamont S. Granby. Please keep his family and church in your prayers as they prepare for his celebration of life.

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. (II Timothy 4:7-10, NIV)

210 persons from our member congregations gathered at the Concord Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York, from 8:45am to 2:30pm., for ABCMNY’s “Cultivating Gifted Leadership Seminar.” The thematic text was Ephesians 4:16, “From him the whole body joined and held together by every supporting ligament grows and builds itself up in love and each part does its work.”

Within this biblical context, three dynamic and seasoned American Baptist pastors helped participants grapple with the meaning of this text and explored how its principles could be integrated into the fabric of their respective ministries

The Rev. Dr. Gary Simpson, Senior Pastor, Concord Baptist Church, facilitated a presentation entitled, “Enriching or Elevating Church Leadership or Something in that Family.

The Rev. Adrienne Thorne, Senior Minister, The Riverside Church in the City of New York, Manhattan, led her topic entitled, “Supporting Actors and Enthusiastic Followers; the Sacred Power of Playing Your Part.”

The Rev. Dr. Willard Ashley, Senior Pastor, Abundant Joy Community Church, Jersey City, shared from the subject, “Built With Love, Pastoral Leadership that Builds Strong Bodies.”

The attendees were invited to join three learning groups and rotate theee times participating in each of the 45 minute coarse offerings taught by our three pastors.

A great leaning experience was had by all.

God is Good.
We are together to do good. God’s good work.

9 Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.
Romans 12:9-16

ACTS 2 -1-4
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

I imagine that at the end of the day that beautiful day of Pentecost: after the tongues had stopped speaking every possible language, after the delirium of the presence of the Spirit had soothed; after visitors and residents had made their way to their intended physical destinations, the sweetness of God’s presence lingered within each there that day. Once seen it couldn’t be unseen. Once heard it couldn’t be unheard. Once felt it couldn’t be said it is impossible.

Fall on us anew, O God, these millennia later, that we might know - with certainty - the power of your Holy Spirit that supersedes all doubts and supplants all earthly powers. The faithful on that day were all together in one house. All of them sheltered in that house, as they left its safety to join others outside, found out your Spirit was intended for all. What a marvelous, expanded revelation it must have been for them.

Help us access and experience the power of your spirit so we may be together for good.
