FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
TO MY BCC FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. I pray that this missive finds you and your family in good health and spirits. This certainly has been a different kind of winter! We have had to “walk by faith” through some of the most challenging NY weather conditions in the last forty years, as well as cope with the horrors of global warfare and the democratization of America. It’s good to hear David say, “THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY SALVATION; OF WHOM SHALL I FEAR. THE LORD IS THE STRENGTH OF MY LIFE; OF WHOM SHALL I BE AFRAID?” (Psalm 27:1, KJV)
Also, we thank God that these last few months and next few weeks are part and parcel of a very busy, spiritual season at Brooklyn Community Church. We have been blessed to experience a Ministerial Ordination, Episcopal Consecration, and Chris Lanhan’s beautiful Homegoing Celebration, and we are anxiously preparing for an exciting Women’s Day, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Missionary Day, Mother’s and Father’s Day. It all gives us the opportunity to fellowship – be together and be together in Christ.
I would like to solicit your assistance in making our upcoming Special Days even more special.
2026 ANNUAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION
On this coming Sunday at 11 AM, we will welcome our Guest Preacher, Rev. Dr. Emma Jordan-Simpson, Associate Pastor and First Lady of Concord Baptist Church of Christ and President of Auburn Theological Seminary. Our colors are blue and gold, and the After-Service Fellowship Hour will feature a very special Women’s Day Dinner. All BCC members and friends are asked to contribute a special Women’s Day offering of $100 (or whatever God enables you to do) over and above your tithes or regular offerings and in support of the general operations of our church.
After dinner and at 3 PM this Sunday afternoon, please join us in the sanctuary for “All Women Have Stories.”
I am tremendously excited to hear our afternoon Speakers and “Story Tellers”:
DEACON FRANCES CAREY
LASHANNA AITCHESON
LATRINA RICE
REV. TAHESHA HILLARD
DEACON ELLEN EDWARDS
GIANNI DANIELS-STALEY
REV. DR. MELAINE ROCHFORD
I would like to thank our 2026 Women’s Day Leadership Team of Chairperson Deacon Antonia Daniels, and Co-Chairs Justice Vasquez-Thomas and Gianni Daniels-Staley for a job well done. Please SPREAD THE WORD AND INVITE, INVITE, INVITE your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and school mates to share in a very special day!
2026 GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE OF THE 7 LAST WORDS, APRIL 3RD, 7 PM, VIA ZOOM ONLY
Holy Week consists of the sacred days between Palm Sunday and Resurrection Sunday when we cease our usual church meetings in recognition of the last days of Jesus, His suffering and sacrificial death. Except for prayer meetings, there will be no weekday meetings during Holy Week.
The Seven Last Words, or more accurately the seven final sayings of Jesus on the cross, are deeply significant in Christian tradition. They represent the last expressions of Jesus’ humanity and divinity during his crucifixion. Each saying comes from a different gospel, capturing a different facet of his experience—his forgiveness, compassion, suffering, fulfillment of prophecy, and ultimate trust in God. They’re often used for meditation during Lent or Good Friday, reflecting on his sacrifice and love. Each phrase speaks to a different audience—whether his enemies, the penitent, his family, or God—showing the depth of his mission and message.
THE 7 LAST WORDS & 7 DEACONS WHO WILL SPEAK
1. "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
(Luke 23:34, KJV)
DEACON ANTONIA DANIELS
2. "Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise."
(Luke 23:43, KJV)
DEACON EDDIE THOMAS
3. "Woman, behold thy son!"... "Behold thy mother!"
(John 19:26-27, KJV)
DEACON CAROLYN ROBINSON
4. "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
(Matthew 27:46, KJV)
DEACON L. PRISCILLA HALL
5. "I thirst."
(John 19:28, KJV)
DEACON PATRICIA CONYERS-FIGEROA
6. "It is finished."
(John 19:30, KJV)
DEACON FRANCES CAREY
7. "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit."
(Luke 23:46, KJV)
DEACON ELLEN EDWARDS
Please invite family and friends to this deeply moving and spiritual service, and we look forward to seeing you on Palm and Resurrection Sundays.
I love you!
Peace and blessings,
Rev. Fred
