Wishing you all a wonderfully joyous Purim!
תורה צוה לנו...
In Memory of Our Dear Rav HaRav Moshe Dovid Tendler, zt”l
We were his “beloved Kehilla”, he was our cherished Rav.
Guiding us strictly by the rules, softened with unconditional love.
Our Shul was filled with friendship and camaraderie,
Caring for each other - just one big family.
Through the years our Rav’s presence enhanced all our simchas, our moments of happiness,
And during our darkest times we truly gelt he shared our pain and sadness.
Memories of beautiful Shul Weekends, Hachnosas Sifrei Torah, Dinners, Kiddushim galore,
Our Shabbosim and Yomim Tovim filled with Divrei Torah, Shiurim, and so much more.
Our Moreh D’Asra taught us right from wrong.
Expecting us to always stand strong.
He taught by example — to “do as I do — not as I say.”
He earned out loyalty, trust and devotion that way.
To never waver from believing in what you know is right,
Our Rav was never one to shy away from a good fight.
Though some would invariably choose to disagree,
Deep respect for our Rav’s greatness was plain for all to see.
Our children smile as they remember Shabbosim and Yomim Tovim.
Climbing up on the Bima treated with sweet lollies the Rav gave them.
Not only respected, revered and loved by all in our local community,
There are so many past and present YU students, alumni, and faculty.
Throughout the world his reputation spread, his phone rang night and day,
With questions on medical ethics, end-of-life care, trusting everything he had to say.
When our Rav became ill and was no longer reachable at his home,
Calls from beloved students and colleagues came through on the Shul’s phone.
Expressing their love and respect for their Rebbi whom they adored for so many years,
One could hear the anguish in their voices, choking back their tears.
Our Rav saw beauty in all of Hashem’s creations large and small.
For him, Torah Umada were inseparable and not in conflict at all.
In the Bais Medrash and his Biology classes our Rav spent many hours each day,
Introducing science into his Shiurim and Torah into his lab,
knowing that this was the correct way.
He appreciated the beauty of a delicate flower, the mighty oceans, the fragile wings of a bird. The glorious colors of the autumn leaves - Hashem’s breathtaking world.
After Shabbos each week the Rav’s backyard birds were in for a real treat,
From the leftover crumbs of the Shul’s Shalosh Seudos they were able to eat.
Our Moreh D’Asra felt a deep love for Eretz Yisroel and his beautiful family living there.
Enjoying precious time with them, treasured memories our Rav was able to share.
Rav Tendler is irreplaceable; we will cherish forever what we had,
His brilliant mind, his quick wit, his zest for life, memories both happy, and sad.
We were his “beloved Kehilla”, he was our cherished Rav.
Guiding us strictly by the rule, softened with unconditional love.
