The fourth chapter of our storytelling series, Jing An Temple Stories, tells a quiet story about memory, distance, and the bond that never fades.

“The Letter”《那封信》 follows Wei, a young man in New York in the midst of a life transition. While unpacking, he comes across a letter written in Chinese - one his grandmother gave him before he left home. Inside is a paper crane, folded together long ago, something he carried with him as he ventured into the world.

As Wei reads her words, memories of childhood in China return - village paths, folded paper cranes, and a grandmother’s gentle encouragement to be brave, explore, and one day find his way back.

Wei’s journey eventually brings him to Jing An Temple 靜安寺 in Flushing, a place where memory, reflection, and presence quietly meet. Set within the serene beauty of the temple’s columbarium, The Letter reflects on remembrance, family bonds, and the spaces that help us reconnect across time and distance.

We’re excited to begin our new storytelling series, The Jing An Temple Stories, sharing meaningful tales inspired by faith, compassion, and the bonds that connect generations.
