Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un
Masjid At-Taqwa extends our deepest condolences on the passing of Imam Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin (October 4, 1943 – November 23, 2025).

We honor a pioneer whose entire life was devoted to justice, truth, discipline, and service — first as a civil rights leader, as a Muslim leader, and a political prisoner who remained unwavering in his principles.

Before Islam, the world knew him as H. Rap Brown, one of the most electrifying voices of the Civil Rights Movement. He served as Chairman of SNCC and later as Minister of Justice for the Black Panther Party, fearlessly confronting racism, oppression, and injustice across the country.

After embracing Al-Islam, Imam Jamil transformed that same courage and leadership into building strong, disciplined, community-centered Muslim institutions. He became:
• National Imam of Al-Ummah, emerging from the Dar Al-Islam legacy
• The founder of the Annual Riyaadah
• A key figure in establishing a national Shura Council, bringing together ICNA, ISNA, the Community of Imam W.D. Mohammed, and Al-Ummah

For decades, Imam Jamil represented Black Muslim strength, dignity, and resistance. His words shaped hearts, his leadership shaped communities, and his example shaped a generation.

He also endured over twenty years as a political prisoner, separated from his family and community. Yet he remained steadfast — holding firmly to sabr, truth, and tawakkul. His resilience became a lesson for Muslims worldwide.

Dua 🤲🏾
Oh Allah, reward Imam Jamil for every step he took in Your cause, every truth he spoke, and every sacrifice he made. Elevate his rank among the righteous, the martyrs, and the sincere. Let the legacy he leaves behind be a sadaqah jariyah for him until the Day of Judgment.

Oh Allah, forgive him, have mercy on him and pardon him. Ya Allah make his grave spacious and filled with light. Make it a garden from the gardens of Paradise. Grant him shade on the Day when there is no shade but Yours. Admit him into Jannatul-Firdous without reckoning or punishment.🤲🏾

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiun
Surely we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.

Masjid At-Taqwa extends our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and community of Imam Talib Abdur-Rashid, beloved Imam of the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood (MIB) in Harlem, NYC.

Imam Talib was a pillar of leadership, wisdom, and truth for over 40 years in the Black American Muslim community and beyond. His lifelong commitment to da’wah, justice, community building, and preserving the legacy of our pioneers has impacted generations. His voice, scholarship, and presence were gifts to our Ummah.

We ask Allah ﷻ to envelop him in mercy, forgive his shortcomings, widen his grave, and grant him the highest station in Jannah al-Firdaws. May Allah grant comfort and strength to his family and the MIB community during this difficult time. Ameen
