Before we serve, we pray. The Order’s service prayer asks for faith to recognize Christ in the poor, wisdom to bear witness to the faith, and charity to serve our lords the poor and the sick through concrete works. This is the spiritual foundation of our mission.

Save this prayer and pray it before your next act of service.

Today, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Philermo, Patron Saint of the Order of Malta.

As Areas across the Association gather to mark this feast, we remember that Our Lady of Philermo belongs to every day, not only to today. She is named in the Daily Prayer of the Order, a quiet assurance that Knights and Dames around the world turn to the same Mother, the same protector, the same guide.

Across the American Association, members serve through food banks, soup kitchens, nursing homes, pregnancy support centers, homeless shelters, prison ministry, mentoring programs, and more. These works are local expressions of a mission that began nearly 1,000 years ago: to serve Christ by serving the sick and the poor.

Which of these works is happening where you live? Name your Area in the comments, and tag someone who serves alongside you.

For Tricia Kolesar and her husband, Andy, Lourdes became a place of tenderness, trust, and grace. Traveling as a malade while undergoing cancer treatment, Tricia experienced the loving care of volunteers, doctors, nurses, and fellow pilgrims. Her testimony reminds us that healing can take many forms.
