Mama, I Want To Sing (Musical)

Mama, I Want To Sing (Musical) The Black, Classic Stage Musical now has an entirely new production featuring Gospel For Teens singers. Dempsey Theater
127 West 127th Street
New York, NY 10027

Mama, I Want to Sing illustrates the stories of many great performers who learned their craft in the church choir. The Doris in Mama, I Want to Sing, Vy’s sister, Doris Troy, stepped out the church choir, performed during Amateur Night at the Apollo, migrated to London where she performed and provided a gospel and soul underpinning for groups such as the Beatles, and eventually performed in Mama,

I Want to Sing in the role of her own mother. In Mama, I Want to Sing, The Next Generation, Ahmaya Knoelle (the daughter of Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro) performs in the role of her aunt, Doris Troy. The Next Generation also features selected performers from Vy Higginsen’s Gospel for Teens Choir. Gospel for Teens is the award-winning choir recently featured on CBS’ 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, and ABC’s World News. Higginsen created Gospel for Teens to pass the legacy of gospel music on from generation to generation. Saturdays through July 30 at 1 and 4:30pm at the Dempsey Theater.
