Hechos 2:42-47
Todos los creyentes vivían unidos y tenían todo en común. Vendían sus propiedades y posesiones y repartían el dinero entre todos, según la necesidad de cada uno. A diario se reunían en el templo y partían el pan en sus casas. Comían con alegría y sinceridad de corazón, alabando a Dios y gozando del aprecio de todo el pueblo. Y cada día el Señor añadía al grupo a los que iban siendo salvados. (Hechos 2:42-47)
Este pasaje nos recuerda que, para que una parroquia sea vibrante, debe ser algo más que una comunidad que se reúne para la misa y la oración. Se trata de una convivencia activa, de compartir bienes para satisfacer necesidades materiales, de comer juntos y de apoyarse mutuamente a diario, en lugar de limitarse a asistir a un servicio religioso formal. De ahí la importancia del picnic parroquial anual.
El sábado 25 de julio, la comunidad parroquial de San Simón Stock y San José se reunió para su picnic anual en el Parque Estatal FDR, en Yorktown Heights, Nueva York. Asistieron unas 200 personas. El picnic ayudó a fomentar el espíritu comunitario, fortalecer la unidad de la parroquia y brindar a todos la oportunidad de conocer gente nueva y darle la bienvenida a la parroquia.
Más de 150 feligreses asistieron al picnic, compartieron alimentos, dieron paseos tranquilos y simplemente se relajaron disfrutando del hermoso paisaje y del buen tiempo. Hubo juegos de dominó, bingo y muchas otras actividades recreativas.
La jornada concluyó con una hermosa misa celebrada por el Padre Von, el vicario parroquial que será trasladado a otro destino. Muchos expresaron su agradecimiento al Padre Von, tanto en privado como durante la misa. El Padre Von pidió a todos que lo tuvieran presente en sus oraciones y recordó que la parroquia de San Simón Stock y San José y su gente siempre ocuparían un lugar especial en su corazón, ya que fue su primer destino pastoral tras su ordenación. Agradeció a todos la paciencia que tuvieron con su español y por haber contribuido a formarlo como el sacerdote y carmelita que es hoy.

Acts 2:42-47
All who believed were together and had all things in common.
They would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47)
This passage reminds us that for a parish to be vibrant, it must be more than just a community that comes together for mass and prayers. It is about active fellowship, sharing possessions to meet physical needs, eating together and daily mutual support rather than just attending a formal religious service. Thus, the importance of the annual parish picnic.
On Saturday, July 25 the St Simon Stock – St Joseph parish community gathered for its annual parish picnic at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights NY. About 200 attended. The picnic helped to build community spirit, strengthen parish unity, and give all an opportunity to meet new people and welcome them to the parish.
More than 150 people from the parish attended the picnic, shared food, took leisurely walks, and just relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and weather. Dominoes, bingo, and all sorts of other games were played.
The day ended with a beautiful mass celebrated by Fr Von, the Parochial Vicar who will be reassigned. Many expressed their thanks for Fr Von in private and during the mass. Fr Von asked all to keep him in their prayers and reminded all that St Simon Stock – St Joseph parish and its people will always be special to him as this was his first assignment after ordination. He thanked all for being patient with his Spanish and for making him the priest and Carmelite he is today.
As he moves on to a new ministry our prayers and good wishes go with him.
