The β€œGateway to Hebron,” inaugurated in late May by Chabad of Hebron, is the first phase of the Field of Machpelah Visitor Center β€” a $9 million project offering visitors an immersive experience.

β€œFor 25 years since our Chabad House opened, we watched people come to the second holiest site in Judaism and leave without really understanding what they had just seen,” said Rabbi Danny Cohen of Chabad of Hebron. β€œNow we have a place here that is welcoming and genuinely inspiring for every person who walks through the door.”

COMING SOON…

In almost every corner of the world, you can find a Chabad House.

But behind every Chabad House are emissariesβ€”Rabbis and Rebbetzinsβ€”with stories worth telling.

Not just where they are, but the life behind the role.
The person behind the shlichusβ€”not just what they do, but who they are.

Stories of Chabad Shluchim. One Face at a Time.

NEW CHABAD CENTER: HINSDALE, ILLINOIS

The city of Hinsdale, Illinois, just got its first Chabad.

Rabbi Yisroel and Raizy Lifsh*tz moved to the western Chicago suburb after a year and a half of groundwork β€” visiting the area, meeting families, and gauging Jewish life in the area, including hosting a Chanukah event which drew, to their surprise, more than 130 people.

Hinsdale and its neighboring villages β€” Clarendon Hills, Westmont, Downers Grove β€” had little Jewish infrastructure beforehand. Most of Chicago’s Jewish suburban population has historically concentrated in the northern and northwestern suburbs, leaving the western corridor largely on its own.

β€œI’ve heard many people say that their kid is the only Jewish child in their class,” Rabbi Lifsh*tz said. β€œBut there really are more Jews here than people realize. Our goal is to meet them and build a connected community.”

Since settling in Hinsdale, they’ve hosted monthly Shabbat services, a Jewish Women’s Circle, Hebrew reading classes, and Purim and Passover celebrations.

Ask the Rabbi: Meaningful Chats and Viral Moments on the Beltline

On any given morning, the Atlanta Beltline moves the way most city trails do β€” runners with earbuds, dog walkers, cyclists cutting through. Just off the pavement in the Old Fourth Ward, though, something stops people mid-stride: a cart, a bearded rabbi, and a small sign.

Rabbi Leivy Lapidus has been wheeling that cart out for a few years now. He sets it up with a sign that reads β€œAsk the Rabbi,” puts out whatever fits the season β€” water bottles, granola bars, Chanukah gelt β€” and waits.

NEW CHABAD CENTER: SAN ANDRÉS, COLOMBIA

The tiny island of San AndrΓ©s, Colombia, sits closer to Nicaragua than to its own mainland. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in foot traffic β€” with nearly 90,000 tourists year-round, thousands of Jewish backpackers pass through the island, and now, there’s a Chabad house waiting for them, led by Rabbi Mordechai and Hadas Bigio.

Chabad’s arrival also brought a new life into the community that has been there for decades. β€œIt came as a blessing,” said local Joseph Niddam. β€œNow we have a rabbi and a synagogue. During the holidays, we are full. It’s a mix β€” locals, tourists, soldiers. It’s amazing.”

Chabad San AndrΓ©s runs daily prayer services, Shabbat and holiday programming, a kosher restaurant open throughout the week, and a full support operation for Jewish travelers.

NEW CHABAD CENTER: πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· RESISTENCIA, ARGENTINA

Rabbi Nochum and Rivka Freedman
Located 13 hours north of Buenos Aires, Resistencia is home to an estimated 2,000 Jews β€” a century-old community with deep roots. The nearest Chabad House is not in Argentina at all, but five hours north across the border in Paraguay.

Led by Rabbi Nochum and Rivka Freedman, Chabad of Resistencia is a hub for Jewish life in the area, with their reach extending to Corrientes, the capital of the neighboring province. β€œWe were surprised to find so many Jewish souls who were alive and searching,” said Rabbi Freedman.
