Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship and Christian love. Whether you’re a seasoned overthinker or just an occasional worrier, we wonder where to even start untangling that mess. What can we do? Well, we can remind ourselves that what looks like chaos to us makes perfect sense to God. Our apparent tangle of a day is part of a bigger picture that we can’t see yet in entirety. It’s not our job to figure it all out, but we can put it all into His hands and trust Him for the next step. It doesn’t have to be some epic leap from confusion to clarity. It can simply be a walk to clear our heads, some deep breaths, or a few minutes of prayer set aside to recenter ourselves in Christ. Letting go of what we can’t control can be so freeing, but it often takes divine hands to pry our fingers off. The next time thoughts overwhelm us, let’s try to imagine everything falling into those hands and just take one simple, prayerful step at a time. Stay encouraged by sharing in the great gift of the Holy Spirit working on our behalf to keep us empowered and connected to His perfect works and purpose.

If you've got a prayer request and if you'd like to share with us, our email address is [email protected]; put in subject line “PRAYER REQUEST” for our prayer ministry to uplift your petition to God, Who is able to do all things in accordance to His perfect will. In the meantime, God bless you and thank you for being a friend to Shaw A.M.E. Zion Church.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship and Christian love. Imagine a different life, a different world, where everything went as perfectly as planned with no sickness, no hurt, and no pain. Would you still need God? We often go to God when we need something. Having an easy, perfect life doesn’t call on a “need” for God. Often, trials and tribulations bring us closer to Him. We learn that we can lean on Him when we don’t have His understanding of what we’re going through. We’ve learned that we should always come to Him in good times and in hard times. We don’t live in a perfect world. When the storms, the trials, the tribulations come, the only way to remain steadfast and strong, ready to face whatever comes to us, is by tapping into God’s strength. By equipping ourselves with Scripture, we can stand on a solid foundation, knowing that God’s plans far outweigh the storms. We don’t live in a perfect world, but we live in God’s perfect will and plan for us. Let His strength wash over you and build you so that you will be fully prepared for whatever comes your way. Stay encouraged by sharing in the great gift of the Holy Spirit working on our behalf to keep us empowered and connected to His perfect works and purpose.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship and Christian love. When we look at how to love others, His Word offers plenty of insight. Romans 12:9-10,13-16 MSG, gives us great examples of love in action: “Love from the center of who you are; don’t fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle… Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality. Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down. Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody.” Let’s make it our prayer today to ask God to help us actively love others - to actively walk across the street to help our neighbors, to actively cook a warm meal for a friend in need, or to actively visit a nearby nursing home to love on the elderly. Let us ask Him to lead us to places where He wants us to shine His light and ask Him for the courage and strength to share His love with all who surround us in our daily lives. And, maybe when we do this, we will guide people to His beauty and they, too, will begin to actively love others and then, who knows how many lives will be impacted? Stay encouraged by sharing in the great gift of the Holy Spirit working on our behalf to keep us empowered and connected to His perfect works and purpose.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship and Christian love. Some of us know when God is talking to us, while others aren’t so sure. God has many different ways of talking to us; sometimes He speaks through others or through a sign on the side of the road or through Scripture. God also guides us through His Holy Spirit, who dwells with us as our Comforter and Helper. It’s so important to start listening and tuning in to the way He is trying to reach us. If you feel like you haven’t heard from the Holy Spirit, pray for God to reveal Himself to you and to heighten your spiritual senses so you can see and hear from Him today. When He speaks, we have to be okay with surrendering and knowing that His plans are much greater than anything we could think for ourselves! Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship and Christian love. When someone we care about goes through a tough time - a serious illness, relationship difficulties, loss of a job, divorce, the death of a loved one - it’s normal to feel some awkwardness, discomfort and apprehension. We often think: What can I do? What should I say? What if I just make things worse? Maybe I should just stay away… Haven’t we all felt that sense of powerless, being at a loss for words or actions when someone we love is in pain? Sometimes, unfortunately, for lack of better options, we opt to do nothing. So how do we change that? Consider being present and willing to listen. We all endure hard times; it’s a fact. And we’ll all witness suffering by those we care about. Christ himself told us, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33 NIV He is our greatest comfort during times of struggle, and He equips us to help others in their sorrow as well. So, let’s commit to help and encourage those who are struggling! Stay encouraged by sharing in the great gift of the Holy Spirit working on our behalf to keep us empowered and connected to His perfect works and purpose.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship and Christian love. We love because He has first loved us. Being left the commandment to love others in the same way we love ourselves. Knowing and believing God’s love for us, we are able to then love each other deeply and fully as Jesus has loved us. “So I give you a new command: Love each other deeply and fully. Remember the ways that I have loved you, and demonstrate your love for others in those same ways” (John 13:34 The Voice). Finally, just think about how you would love your neighbor better if you had a healthy love for yourself. Yes, we are called to love others, but you cannot stop there – we are to love others in the same way we love ourselves. Loving our neighbor will not always be easy because our neighbors are imperfect people, as are we. God is the connector that loves through us. We love because He has first loved us. Stay encouraged by sharing in the great gift of the Holy Spirit working on our behalf to keep us empowered and connected to His perfect works and purpose.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship. Looking back at the year 2020, we never could have imagined that the last year and a half have turned out this way – that our current realities would be so far from what we expected them to be just a few months ago. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship. We are the sheep, and Jesus is the Shepherd. He watches over us and sits at the door, making sure that we’re safe. Have you had a hard time hearing from God lately? Sometimes it seems that God goes silent on us and we’re left wandering around like lost sheep. But maybe, just maybe, He is waiting for us to really listen—to sit by His side all hours of every day and practice listening and tuning into His voice. As a wandering sheep, we need the Shepherd. He guards the door and keeps us safe. When He calls us, we listen and follow Him. We need to know His voice. Know that whether or not you are hearing from Him, the Good Shepherd is always there, tenderly caring for you and longing for you to wholeheartedly lean into Him for all your wants, needs, hopes, and dreams. After glimpsing this picture of Jesus, do you see yourself in the pasture with the other sheep, or are you a wanderer? When the Good Shepherd speaks, can you hear Him? When you learn His voice and listen for when He calls you, follow Him and let Him lead you to what’s next! Stay encouraged by sharing in the great gift of the Holy Spirit working on our behalf to keep us empowered and connected to His perfect works and purpose.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight our paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV) God’s work is never done in our lives. When we start one job and feel it’ll be a lifetime career, God may have other plans. But don’t be alarmed—He created us for so much more! In each season of life, our purpose molds, shifts, and reshapes. Your purpose is not defined by one thing or one moment. God is continuously writing our stories, and we have to be okay with a few plot twists. Let God guide you in the waiting, all the while asking Him to give you an extra dose of patience and love to complete His perfect works in you. Also take notice that the Bible’s biggest book, the book of Psalms—devotes entire chapters to praise and rejoicing—all to tell us that our God is a celebrating God. When we celebrate, we take on His character. Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim You, who walk in the light of Your presence, Lord. They rejoice in Your name all day long; they celebrate Your righteousness. PSALM 89:15–16 You give us so many reasons to celebrate! Let’s pick a day like today, to do something special in celebration of His greatness. For He is great and is greatly to be praised!!

If you've got a prayer request and if you'd like to share with us, our email address is [email protected]; put in subject line “PRAYER REQUEST” for our prayer ministry to uplift your petition to God, Who is able to do all things in accordance to His perfect will. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support, and remembering to gather together in worship. Our heartfelt desire should be that the path of our lives stay flooded by the light of God. God is love and love is bright. Kindness and love leave trails of light in our lives that become brighter as we draw closer to their source. Our presence, or rather His presence in us, starts to feel like pure sunshine to everyone we come in contact with. On sunny days it seems like joy explodes. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are the things that keep it illuminated. The way to shine is by letting God have His way with our days, our actions, our choices, and our hearts. The best days are always about how we love the people in our lives in the best ways. Nothing else lights up lives like the love of God, but it’s also a refreshing reminder that His glory can light the world through us. Stay encouraged by sharing in the great gift of the Holy Spirit working on our behalf to keep us empowered and connected to His perfect works and purpose.
