We are overjoyed to announce the very special news of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s historic visit to our Greek Orthodox Community of Saint George & Saint Demetrios here in New York City, which occurred on the evening of Thursday, September 18.

During the course of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew’s Apostolic Visit to America, His All-Holiness graced our church with his venerable presence, making it the first-ever visit of an Ecumenical Patriarch in our community’s nearly 100-year-long history. Together with the gracious facilitation of three of our parish’s exceptional doctors, our beloved Patriarch venerated our two Patron Protectors and the miraculous icon of Panagia Giatrissa located inside the church.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. George Dangas, Dr. George Syros and Dr. Stamatis Lerakis, and to all our parishioners who assisted in welcoming our Patriarch. In honor of this truly blessed occasion, we are sharing a few pictures from His All-Holiness’ personal visit to our community.

📢Special Announcement: Visit of Abbot Philemon from Mount Athos

We are honored to welcome Abbot Philemon from the Skete of Prophet Elias on Mount Athos to our Church of St. George & St. Demetrios in Manhattan for the Feast of St. Demetrios the Myrrh-Streamer on October 25 & 26, 2024.

✨ Great Vespers: Friday, October 25, 6 PM
After the service, a coffee social hour will be held in the Community Hall for all in attendance, followed by a special lecture on Orthodox life and spirituality by Fr. Philemon.

✨Orthros & Divine Liturgy: Saturday, October 26, 9 AM
Following the Divine Liturgy, a celebratory luncheon will be hosted in the Community Hall in honor of our Parish’s Patron Protector, the Holy and Great Martyr Demetrios.

All are invited to join us for the celebration of our Community’s feast, and to come meet and greet Fr. Philemon, a most respected elder from the Holy Mountain of Athos!

You are welcome to join us in our Church Hall this coming Friday, April 26, at 5 p.m. to begin assembling grocery bags. The more hands the merrier!
The distribution will start at 7 p.m. on the church's sidewalk.
