With profound sorrow and Christian hope, the Scalabrinian family joins the people of Colombia in prayer following the devastating earthquake of August 10.

The publicly reported Government death toll has risen to 132 people, with more than 570 injured, hundreds of homes and buildings have been damaged or totally destroyed, while search and rescue operations continue. The magnitude 7.4 earthquake affected communities across much of western and central Colombia.

Today, our hearts are with those who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, families who have lost their homes, and everyone facing hardships in the aftermath of this tragedy.

We stand with all who suffer, we cannot remain indifferent.

Let us pray:
Lord of life and mercy,
receive into your loving arms those who have died,
comfort their families,
bring healing to the injured,
protect those who have lost their homes,
and strengthen rescuers, doctors, volunteers, and communities
working tirelessly to save lives. Amen

Con profundo dolor y esperanza cristiana, la familia Scalabrinian se une al pueblo colombiano en oración tras el devastador terremoto del 10 de agosto.

El balance oficial del gobierno asciende a 132 fallecidos, con más de 570 heridos. Cientos de viviendas y edificios han sufrido daños o han quedado totalmente destruidos, mientras continúan las operaciones de búsqueda y rescate. El sismo de magnitud 7.4 afectó a comunidades en gran parte del occidente y centro de Colombia.

Hoy, nuestros corazones están con quienes han perdido a sus seres queridos, con los heridos, con las familias que han perdido sus hogares y con todos los que enfrentan dificultades tras esta tragedia.

Nos solidarizamos con todos los que sufren; no podemos permanecer indiferentes.

Oremos:
Señor de la vida y la misericordia,
recibe en tus brazos amorosos a los fallecidos,
consuela a sus familias,
concede sanación a los heridos,
protege a quienes han perdido sus hogares,
y fortalece a los rescatistas, médicos, voluntarios y comunidades
que trabajan incansablemente para salvar vidas. Amén.

In the Footsteps of St. Scalabrini - Celebrating 125 Years of the Visit of St. Scalabrini to United States. 1901 - 2026
(Part 1 of 15)

On August 3, 1901, Bishop John Baptist Scalabrini arrived in New York aboard the Italian steamship Liguria. His arrival marked the beginning of an extraordinary one-hundred-day journey through the United States.

Before the ship reached the dock, priests and representatives of the Italian community traveled out to greet him aboard the George Starr. Two children, Katie Rappetti and a child identified in the historical account as Molinelli, welcomed him on behalf of the community. Scalabrini expressed his joy at finding himself among his people “in this land of freedom.”

From the pier, he was escorted through the city to Saint Joachim’s Mission on Roosevelt Street. The mission became his residence and headquarters in New York.

During his first days, Scalabrini met his missionaries, received journalists, toured Manhattan with Archbishop Michael Corrigan, visited Ellis Island, and went to the Italian mission of Our Lady of Pompeii.

He had come on behalf of Pope Leo XIII, but he was not conducting a ceremonial tour. He wanted to see the living conditions of immigrants personally. He wished to understand the dangers they encountered, the condition of their parishes and families, and the effectiveness of the institutions created to assist them.

His presence also drew reporters into Italian neighborhoods that had usually appeared in the press only in connection with poverty, crime, or ethnic stereotypes. More than twenty-five newspapers eventually reported on the journey, helping Scalabrini present a different image of Italian immigrants to the American public.

Happy Priest's Day! On the feast of St. John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests, we give thanks for all priests who serve with humility, compassion, and missionary zeal. As Scalabrinians, we pray especially for those who accompany migrants and build communities where everyone can feel welcomed as part of one family.
St. John Vianney, inspire our priests to be faithful shepherds, close to the poor, migrants, and all who seek hope. Amen.

¡Feliz Día del Sacerdote! En la fiesta de San Juan Vianney, patrono de los sacerdotes parroquiales, damos gracias por todos los sacerdotes que sirven con humildad, compasión y celo misionero. Como Scalabrinianos, oramos especialmente por quienes acompañan a los migrantes y construyen comunidades donde todos se sientan acogidos como parte de una misma familia.

On the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, promoted by the United Nations, we join the Blue Heart Campaign in solidarity with victims and survivors of this crime.
As a Church without borders, we stand with migrants and all those whose dignity, safety, and freedom are at risk, especially those deceived by false job offers and digital scams. May the Blue Heart remind us that no one should ever be bought, sold, or treated as a commodity.

Con motivo del Día Mundial contra la Trata de Personas, promovido por las Naciones Unidas, nos unimos a la campaña Blue Heart para expresar nuestra solidaridad con las víctimas y sobrevivientes de este crimen.
Como Iglesia sin fronteras, permanecemos al lado de los migrantes y de todas las personas cuya dignidad, seguridad y libertad están en riesgo, especialmente de quienes son engañados mediante falsas ofertas de trabajo y estafas digitales. As Scalabrinians, we are deeply concerned by the end of TPS for more than 340,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians. Sending families back to violence and instability is a matter of human dignity. Many have built lives, raised children, and strengthened their communities.
We call for a just and compassionate solution. As a Church without borders, we stand with migrants and refugees.
Let us pray: God of mercy, protect these families, guide our leaders toward justice, and make us builders of welcome and peace. Amen.

Como Scalabrinianos, nos preocupa profundamente el fin del Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) para más de 340.000 haitianos y 6.000 sirios. Devolver a familias a la violencia y la inestabilidad es una cuestión de dignidad humana. Muchos han construido sus vidas, criado hijos y fortalecido sus comunidades.
Abogamos por una solución justa y compasiva. Como Iglesia sin fronteras, nos solidarizamos con los migrantes y refugiados.

Between July 20 and 24, the St. John XXIII Seminary in São Paulo, Brazil, hosted the Global Meeting of Chaplains of the Stella Maris Apostolate of the Scalabrinian Catholic Network. The initiative brought together Scalabrinian missionaries, Church representatives, and collaborators of the Apostleship of the Sea to evaluate pastoral priorities and define action plans for the coming years.

Based on the guidelines of the 16th General Chapter of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians and the Statute of the Apostleship of the Sea, promulgated by Pope Leo XIV on November 13, 2015, the meeting focused on reflecting on the challenges faced by maritime workers, fishermen, dockworkers, truck drivers, and their families, as well as strengthening the pastoral work of the Stella Maris Network across different continents.

Entre el 20 y el 24 de julio, el Seminario San Juan XXIII, en São Paulo, Brasil, fue sede del Encuentro Global de Capellanes del Apostolado Stella Maris de la Red Católica Scalabriniana. La iniciativa reunió a misioneros scalabrinianos, representantes de la Iglesia y colaboradores del Apostolado del Mar para evaluar las prioridades pastorales y definir las líneas de acción para los próximos años.

Realizado a partir de las orientaciones del 16.º Capítulo General de la Congregación de los Misioneros de San Carlos – Scalabrinianos y del Estatuto del Apostolado del Mar, promulgado por el Papa León XIV el 13 de noviembre de 2025, el encuentro se centró en reflexionar sobre los desafíos que enfrentan los marítimos, pescadores, trabajadores portuarios, camioneros y sus familias, además de fortalecer la labor pastoral de la Red Stella Maris en diferentes continentes.
