India Couture Week 2026 saw designers reshape familiar codes through sculpted draping, exaggerated panniers, cropped proportions, artisanal texture and sharp tailoring. Featherwork, fringe, embroidery and dimensional construction gave the collections movement and depth.

For me, Anamika Khanna’s Moonlit Palace marked the strongest moment of the week. Khanna pushed Indian couture into less familiar territory, replacing expected bridal silhouettes with sculpted panniers, precise tailoring, black jodhpurs and layers of translucent tulle. Victorian influences met the craft traditions of Barmer and the visual language of Kalighat through lace, metallic embroidery and intricate handwork. The result was imaginative and avant-garde, yet deeply connected to its Indian roots.

Swipe through for my edit of the ideas that defined India Couture Week—and the ones I expect to influence bridal fashion next.

Engineered folds transform the body into a frame for avant-garde sculptural form.

Rising hemlines bring heritage embellishment into a sharper, more playful silhouette.

Gold moves into the spotlight as a defining bridal shade for 2027.

Sheer fabrics and visible underpinnings signal a bolder turn in Indian couture, revealing the body with a more provocative point of view.

Fringe, feather, and tassel take the lead. Embroidery gives way to raw, tactile movement.

The dramatic proportions of the 18th-century pannier return through balloon skirts and voluminous trousers.

Corsetry and beading built to trace the body’s own lines. Structure worn like a second skin.

The bodycon dress takes centre stage in Indian couture, shaped through intricate embellishment and high-impact shine.

A tailored jacket, worn over tradition. Western structure meets South Asian flare.

Brides and makeup artists have been taught the same language for years: conceal, correct, smooth, perfect.

But we’re entering a different beauty conversation.

One where freckles stay visible. Dark under-eyes don’t have to disappear. Fine lines aren’t treated as a problem. Makeup can still be expressive, polished, graphic, romantic — without erasing the face underneath it.

For brides, especially, there’s something powerful and timeless in looking like yourself on a day that will be photographed forever.

And for makeup artists, perhaps the artistry now is not in creating a more perfect face, but in knowing what to leave untouched.

In the age of AI, that feels more important than ever.

Before Nivi and I began working together, she had already explored a range of designers and silhouettes during a shopping trip to India.

I studied every photo from that trip, analyzing which necklines, proportions, colours, and shapes suited her best. That gave us clarity: a sculptural evening gown for her reception.

We found our starting point in a Nicole + Felicia design, but the vision didn’t stop there. The original gown was white, but we knew tea rose felt right. We refined the colour and drew details from multiple gowns to create something uniquely hers.

The timeline was tighter than the atelier would typically accept, and the order was initially declined. After continued advocacy on my end, they agreed to take it on.

Every detail was then finalized virtually through photographs, videos, and ongoing conversations before production began.

The final gown wasn’t the result of one decision. It was the culmination of careful analysis, creative direction, collaboration, and persistence

Jonathan Anderson and Nina Christen have given Dior’s footwear a new sense of theatre—sculptural, witty and impossible to ignore. Unfortunately for us, many of these runway shoes will never reach the retail floor. Their intricate construction, exaggerated proportions and unapologetic impracticality mean they may remain part of the runway fantasy.

But if they ever made it beyond the show, this is how I would style them with South Asian dress. Swipe to see my style pairings—which look is your favourite? Comment below.

For the bride whose vision of heritage extends beyond the expected, few silhouettes feel as quietly powerful as the bridal suit.

South Asian bridalwear often begins—and ends—with the lehenga. Rich in craftsmanship and cultural memory, the bridal suit brings an archival sensibility to bridal dressing—one that feels collected, storied, and powerfully restrained
