The World Day of Prayer Madagascar dedicated Saturday, 18 July 2026 to the "Root" planting activity as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Worldwide Day of Prayer movement.

They chose to plant coconut trees because of their rich symbolism:
1- They carry life-giving water from above, symbolizing women as a source of life and nourishment.
2- They continually grow upward, representing aspiration, growth, and reaching higher.
3- They grow straight without branching, symbolizing integrity, steadfastness, and faithfulness.
4- A single root bears abundant fruit, reflecting our faith in one Lord whose blessings will continue through the next 100 years and beyond.
5- They bend gently in strong winds but stand upright again, expressing the resilience we hope to see in every woman.

An example of Informed Prayer leading to Prayerful Action.

Thank you World Day of Prayer - England, Wales and Northern Ireland for supporting Strength to Stand groups in Pakistan over the past year.🫶

Strength to Stand groups seek to increase resilience and protection for some of the most persecuted, deprived and vulnerable women in Pakistan, bringing social, economic and spiritual transformation to countless lives.

Today, there are over 450 Strength to Stand groups in Pakistan providing vital practical and spiritual support for our marginalised sisters there. 🙏

We were delighted to have a visit last week from our former Executive Director of WDPIC, Rosangela Oliveira! It was wonderful to talk with her about the many Centennial projects and the upcoming International Meeting in Ghana next June, 2027. World Day of Prayer is lucky to have retired staff persons who are still passionate and committed to our beloved prayer movement.

Special thanks to the former Executive Director of WDPIC, Eileen King, for visiting the office last week, and helping us continue to identify people in the photos we have in our archives. This work is being done as part of the "Reflect" Project, as we support committees in writing and documenting the history of World Day of Prayer in their country.

Every movement is carried forward by the people who gave it their care and love. This Centennial year is an opportunity to share and celebrate those stories. We are requesting each Committee to contribute to this project. Every contribution, large or small, helps strengthen our shared historical record, and all submissions will be carefully reviewed and validated by professional archivists as part of the archiving process. We are very excited to see the contributions from around the world!

Another tree has been planted! A mango tree at the home of our dear friend and member, Tlamelo, in Botswana. It was planted in May and we cannot wait to see how it looks a year from now. Celebrate our global movement by planting a tree, symbolizing our commitment to growth and caring for the creation of this world.

A message from Kayla Ginter – delegate to the 2026 Young Women’s Leadership Institute in Thailand.
This November, the World Day of Prayer International Committee will host the 2026 Young Women’s Leadership Institute in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Out of 200 global applicants, I was selected as one of 35 women to participate in this global retreat.
The World Day of Prayer has greatly influenced my personal growth as well as my family’s spiritual journey, shaping our faith through our shared participation in the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada and World Day of Prayer initiatives. Receiving the news of my selection for the retreat brought a deep sense of gratitude.
My faith has shaped my approach to both leadership and global stewardship. As a lifelong Christian, I have found my purpose in honouring God's creation by participating in environmental and social justice initiatives, caring for the planet, and serving the church. I have served as a worship leader, led children's Bible camps, and guided youth events. Through these experiences, I have learned that our spiritual conviction is inseparable from how we care for one another and protect the world we share. At the heart of my leadership is the belief that personal transformation calls us into "Informed Prayer, Prayerful Action" to support communities that have been marginalized or overlooked.
As I prepare for this journey, the international committee has asked the participants to reflect on the future of the movement. I would value your perspective on these same questions:
What kind of leader do you want to become?
How do you hope to support women and the global WDP family in the years ahead? I
As I prepare to represent Canada, I want to carry your voices and stories with me.
