Today we would like to take a moment to share with you the story of our parish Bell Tower.
In Septemember 7, 1924, the cornerstone of the "Upper Church" was laid and two years later on October 31, 1926, our Church of St. Catharine of Alexandria was completed as we know it today. On the Corner of 41st Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway, a great tower surmounted by a cross, the top of which is 157 feet from the ground, stood tall and proud.
Almost 100 years later, in 2019 our former Pastor Fr. Andrzej Klocek realized that the tower was beginning to deteriorate and become unstable. Plans were made to renovate it. Extensive renovations were made in both the interior structure as well as the exterior. Now two years later on May 17, 2021 all work in the tower was completed. Fr. Jose Orellana, our current pastor, led a small blessing at the foot of the tower. It is our hope and dreams that this newly renovated tower will remain standing for another hundred more years.
We want to express our gratitude to the many current and former parishioners who, through all their prayers and donations made this project possible. We would also like to offer a special thanks to all our Pastors and priests who have kept our Parish strong. Another special thanks goes to all the workers who have conrtibuted their hard labor during these past two years.
