Saint Monica of Hippo (c. 331–387) was the mother of Saint Augustine of Hippo and is one of the great figures of the early Church. Her feast day is celebrated on August 27, one day before the feast of her son.
She was born in Tagaste, in North Africa, around the year 331. From a young age, she lived her Christian faith deeply. Her greatest spiritual concern was her son Augustine, who for many years turned away from the faith and lived a life that caused his mother great sorrow. Monica never stopped praying for him. Saint Augustine himself recalls in his Confessions his mother’s tears, prayers, and perseverance. After many years of prayer, searching, and accompaniment, Augustine embraced the Christian faith. He was baptized by Saint Ambrose of Milan in 387 and later became a priest, bishop, and one of the greatest Fathers and Doctors of the Church.
Saint Monica is especially remembered as a model of a mother, wife, woman of prayer, and faithful witness. Her life reminds us that the conversion of a person may take time, but that prayer, love, and patience are never in vain.
Her story also offers a very relevant message for families today: we should never lose hope when faced with the spiritual struggles of our loved ones. Monica did not change Augustine through arguments or pressure, but through years of prayer, tears, patience, and a faithful Christian example. For this reason, she is honored as the patron saint of mothers, married women, and those who pray for the conversion of their children.

A Short Prayer to Saint Monica
Saint Monica, woman of faith and perseverance,
teach us to trust in God even when we do not immediately see the fruits of our prayers.
Intercede for our families, our children, and all those who have turned away from God.
Help us to remain firm in hope,
following your example of love, patience, and prayer.
Amen.

Dear brothers and sisters, this week we will take a journey through the various renovation and construction projects that have taken place at our Church, the Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua. We see how it has been beautifully developed over the years, becoming, as many of you have said, one of the most beautiful Churches in New York City. seen in the photos are 1) A sketch of the church's exterior in the 1920s. 2) The Church interior during a Latin Mass. 3) The altar prior to the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council. 4) Renovation work on the altar. 5) Post-Council Eucharistic celebration. 6) Eucharistic celebration during the 1980s with Fr. Patrick Boyle, the Pastor at the time.🙏

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
