Staten Island Council of Churches

Staten Island Council of Churches Children of God working together for the Good of the Kingdom of God; showing forth the Love of Christ; spreading the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Council is an intentionally ecumenical organization that provides opportunities for the churches on Staten Island to manifest the unity that is envisioned in the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. The purpose of the Council is to encourage and facilitate ministry, celebration and mission that are reflective of the common call we share in and through the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Council strives

to uphold the diversity of the gifts of each member congregation and organization by utilizing these gifts in our common ministry within the community and the larger world.

You are warmly invited to join us Sunday, March 15th for a special time of worship and unity as we gather for the 2026 Ecumenical Lenten Service hosted by the Staten Island Council of Churches

2026 Ecumenical Lenten Service

Theme: Jesus is the Center
Date: Sunday, March 15, 2026
Time: 4:00 PM
Location: The Lady Chapel of St. Clare Church
110 Nelson Avenue
Staten Island, NY 10308

This year’s message is rooted in John 6:35:
“I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

We are honored to hear the musical stylings of Elis Lloshi, singing by Rev. John L. Wood & Evangelist Doreen Yancy-Wood of Faith United Methodist Church, and the homily from Bishop Donnie Williams of Reach Out & Touch Ministries, and fellowship will follow at 5:00 PM.

During this Lenten season, it is powerful to pause, refocus, and remember that Christ is not on the sidelines of our lives - He is the Center. Come worship, reflect, and reconnect with brothers and sisters across our community.

Bring a friend. Bring your family. Come expectant.

We hope to see you there!

This week, believers in Christ all around the globe will unite to dedicate each day to prayer for Christian Unity. Each year, the SICOC participates in this worldwide event by hosting an Annual Prayer for Christian Unity, inviting Staten Islanders to gather and pray. This year's theme is drawn from Ephesians 4:4: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.”

This Thursday, January 22nd, we will do so at Trinity Lutheran Church, starting with our evening Hymn Sing at 6:30 pm and a word from our Keynote Speaker, Fr. Jacob Thomas, from The Church of St. Clare (see attached flyer for more information, and please feel free to share).

We hope to see you then!

I pray you’re doing well and feeling encouraged as we move into this Advent season.

The Staten Island Council of Churches warmly invites you to join us for our Ecumenical Advent Service this Sunday, December 7th at 4 PM, hosted at Christ United Methodist Church (1890 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10303).

This service is always a beautiful moment to pause, breathe, and reconnect with hope—something we could all use more of. We’ll gather as one community, across traditions and backgrounds, to celebrate the light Christ brings into the world.

Please feel free to bring your family, your friends, or anyone who could use a peaceful, uplifting space. All are welcome.

If you know you’re coming, a quick RSVP comment would help us prepare, but you’re absolutely welcome even if you decide at the last-minute.

Looking forward to seeing you there and sharing this sacred time together.
