On Sunday, October 4, St. Gabriel's Passionist Parish in Toronto concluded their celebration of this 2026 Season of Creation with a Blessing of Animals. Over thirty parishioners brought dogs, cats, rabbits and even a lizard to receive a blessing from Fr. Paul Ruttle CP. In his own words, "These animals, these gifts of God's creation, have been blessings to your lives with their companionship, their loyalty, and the joy they bring to you. Now, we ask God's to bless them with health and happiness, and with many years of life with you."

🌎 As the Season of Creation draws to a close, what might we carry forward?

In the fifth reflection of “Forming Conscience in Extraordinary Times,” theologian and Passionist Family member Carl Middleton offers a Passionist Ecological Examination of Conscience, inviting us to slow down, give thanks for creation, recognize where we have caused harm and consider how we might begin again.

Rooted in the Passionist charism, this prayerful examination moves through gratitude, mindfulness, sorrow and ecological conversion, helping us reflect on our relationship with God, one another and all creation.

As Season of Creation ends, may our care for our common home continue in the choices and habits we carry into every season.

✝️ How do we recognize Christ Crucified today?

In the latest reflection from “Forming Conscience in Extraordinary Times,” theologian and Passionist Family member Carl Middleton invites us to look closely at the suffering around us, both in our human family and throughout creation.

Carl encourages us to look at the margins, listen to the silenced, examine unjust systems and reflect with empathy, always asking where we are being called to respond with compassion, hope and care.

At the heart of the Passionist charism is a commitment not to look away from suffering, but to recognize Christ in those who carry crosses today and to walk alongside them.

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a day that brings us to the very heart of Passionist spirituality.

The Cross, once an instrument of suffering and death, is transformed through the love of Jesus into a sign of hope. It reminds us that God does not remain distant from human suffering, but enters into it with us, and that suffering and death never have the final word.

As Passionists, may we keep alive the memory of Christ’s Passion by recognizing Christ in those who suffer today and choosing compassion, presence and hope.

May the Passion of Jesus Christ be always in our hearts.
