We give thanks for their willingness to serve and for the spirit of faith, generosity and collaboration they bring to this important ministry of leadership within the Passionist Congregation.

Please pray for Fr. Jim, the leadership council and all the members of St. Paul of the Cross Province as they embrace this new responsibility in the life of the Congregation.

There is still so much work to be done at the provincial chapter, but we pause for a moment to celebrate our new Provincial, Fr. James Price, CP, just elected to a four year term.

Please keep the Passionists in your prayers this week as they meet together at their Chapter to pray, plan for their future, and discern new leadership:

Merciful God, you gifted your servant St. Paul of the Cross with a special Charism by which he saw in the Passion of your Son “the most marvelous work of your love”.

Help us, his sons and daughters, to witness to this love in our personal and communal lives of prayer, solitude, simplicity and solidarity. Touched by your grace and guided by the Wisdom of the Cross, may our proclamation of the Gospel bear witness to your presence in a broken world.

As they participate in their 52nd Chapter we pray that you grant your Holy Spirit to the whole Passionist community of St. Paul of the Cross Province, so that, remaining faithful to the spiritual legacy of our Founder, they may find pathways to a courageous renewal of our mission in the Church and in the world.

And may the passion of Christ remain always in our hearts.

We make our prayer in Jesus’ name.

Thursday, May 14 - Feast of the Ascension

“Why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.”

On this feast of the Ascension, why do YOU stand there staring at the sky? Are you afraid? It’s natural to feel abandoned by Jesus, even though seconds earlier he said “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you”.

Or do you feel emboldened because he gave you a job to do: to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth?

Or are you taking it all in, amazed at what is going on around you, humbled to be among the ones to hear his message.

Whatever it is you feel, this is a good day to remember that the Holy Spirit continues to flow in and through us all. How will you accept this gift, this grace, today? How will you use it to serve those among you in words, in actions, in prayer?
