We join the whole Archdiocese in praying for our Archbishop and his family as they mourn their loss and for the soul of his beloved father, also named Ronald Hicks. Requiescat in Pace.

Archbishop Ronald Hicks' father, Ronald Joseph Hicks, entered eternal life in Lemont, Ill. on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the age of 87.

In addition to being a devoted family man who was active in his Catholic faith, the Archbishop’s father was an educator with “a gentle heart and a kind disposition.”

Archbishop Hicks shared a letter asking for the faithful to keep the entire Hicks family in their prayers.

Please join us in praying for Ronald J. Hicks and the Hicks family.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

We pray to the Lord for Pope Leo’s recovery and quick return to his regular duties. Long Live the Pope!

From Archbishop Hicks:
We thank God that the surgery on Pope Leo was, by all accounts, successful, and that he continues his recovery and recuperation. I know that I join with people from all corners of this archdiocese, across the country, and around the world in keeping the Holy Father in our prayers.

May God bless Bishop Byrne as the Holy Father accepts his retirement. He has served as Episcopal Vicar of Staten Island for many years and has done so with generosity, faith and courage. May the Lord grant him many more fruitful years of episcopal ministry and we hope he will remain an active presence among us. The prayers of our parish are with you!

Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of the Most Reverend Peter J. Byrne, 75, from the Office of Auxiliary Bishop of New York.

The resignation was publicized in Washington, D.C. on October 5, 2026, by Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

Congratulations to Archbishop Hicks on receiving the pallium from Pope Leo. May God bless him with wisdom and strength to shepherd the Church in New York.

Today in Rome, on the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Archbishop Hicks received the pallium from the Holy Father alongside other newly named metropolitan archbishops from around the world.

The pallium, a woolen band worn over the shoulders, is a symbol of a metropolitan archbishop's communion with the Successor of St. Peter and of his pastoral responsibility to shepherd the faithful entrusted to his care. Last evening, the pallium was placed at the tomb of St. Peter, linking this ancient tradition to the witness of the Apostle whose faith continues to strengthen the Church.

A moment of unity, apostolic continuity, and faithful service to Christ and His Church.

Please join us in praying for Archbishop Hicks as he continues his ministry to the people of the Archdiocese of New York.
