"There is something magical about seeing the world through the eyes of children. Children are our greatest teachers of wonder and awe; they have a PH.D. in exuberance—pausing to watch an airplane cross the sky, bending down to marvel at a ladybug on a leaf, delighting in an “Oh, so pretty!” patch of dandelions, or discovering a rabbit in the clouds. To them, the world is alive with wonder, and every discovery is worthy of a breathless whisper: “Wow!” It is joy in its purest, most uninhibited form."

Women's League for Conservative Judaism is deeply saddened by the passing of Gloria Steinem, the trailblazing feminist activist, writer, and advocate, at the age of 92.

The daughter of a Jewish father, Leo Steinem, Gloria was taught by her mother to value and embrace her Jewish heritage. For decades, she participated in an annual women’s seder, which she described as the first spiritually centered experience of her feminist life. In the face of antisemitism, she expressed her unwavering solidarity, declaring: “Never in my life have I identified myself as a Christian, but wherever there is antisemitism, I identify as a Jew.” The Forward

A courageous pioneer for women’s rights and leadership, Gloria Steinem devoted her life to challenging injustice, advancing equality, and amplifying women’s voices. Her revolutionary work has inspired generations and resonates deeply with the mission of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism – to educate, empower, advocate, and lead.

Her enduring legacy will continue to inspire WLCJ as we work to unite and strengthen Conservative/Masorti Jewish women and ensure that every woman’s voice is heard.
