BismillahirRahmanirRahim
The 18th of Zul Hijjah marks the Shahadat of Hazret Osman el-Ghani (RA)
On this day, we remember the martyrdom of Hz. Osman el-Ghani (RA), the third Khalifa of Islam, Zul Nurain, the Compiler of the Qur’an, and one of the most beloved of the Prophet ﷺ.
He was surrounded, starved, and slaughtered in his home by rebels who had once pledged their Beyat to him. Yet he refused to raise his sword in his own defense. He refused to spill the blood of the Ummah, even if that meant that the blood that would be spilled was his own. The martyrdom of Hz. Osman (RA) marked the beginning of the Fitnah that has never left us.
We remember him through our Sheykh Lokman Efendi Hz, who reminds us that Hz. Aisha bint Osman (RA) stood over her father’s grave and said:
“He was not my father only—he was a father to the Ummat. And those he considered his sons murdered him... He preferred to give up his own life than to spill blood and start a civil war. He is a Shaheed in the Way of Allah. His place is in Paradise, in the Sohbet of the Rasulallah ﷺ.”
These words still echo. Sheykh Lokman Efendi (Hz.) reminds us:
“The same anger, jealousy, and betrayal that moved the rebels to murder Hz. Osman is still alive in the hearts of the Ummat. It is not for Ahiret—they betray for dunya, for ego. They break their Beyat because they are dissatisfied. They forget honor, and they become rebels, promise-breakers in the Eyes of Allah.”
Hz. Hasan ibn Ali (RA) dreamt of his grandfather Rasulallah ﷺ standing near the Throne of Allah with Hz. Abu Bakr and Hz. Umar beside him. Then came Hz. Osman, his face covered in blood, his head in his hands. He said:
“Ya Rasulallah, ask the people—for what sin did they slaughter me like a cow?”
Then the Throne of Allah began to shake. And a voice from the Unseen declared:
“From today until the Judgment Day, believers will continue to take the lives of believers.”
The martyrdom of Hz. Osman (RA) is not history—it is warning. The Ummah that betrayed its Khalifas—Hz. Osman (RA), Sultan Abdul Hamid Han (CM)—now lives with the pain of that betrayal.
May Allah forgive this nation. May we not be counted among the promise-breakers. And may we live and die with honor and loyalty to the Friends of Allah.
May Allah SWT raise his station and may his himmet be with us, amin. Ruhuna Fatiha
