The Book of Habakkuk is a short book in the Old Testament of the Bible, consisting of 3 chapters. It is one of the Minor Prophets and is traditionally attributed to the prophet Habakkuk, who likely lived in the late 7th century BC, during a time of political turmoil and the rise of Babylon.

Chapter 1: Habakkuk’s First Complaint
* Habakkuk asks why violence, injustice, and wickedness go unpunished.
* God answers that He is raising the Babylonians (Chaldeans) to judge Judah.
* Habakkuk is troubled because the Babylonians seem even more wicked than Judah.
Chapter 2: God’s Response
* God assures Habakkuk that Babylon’s judgment will also come.
* The famous verse appears here:
“The righteous shall live by his faith.” (Habakkuk 2:4)
This verse later becomes important in the New Testament, especially in the writings of Paul the Apostle.
Chapter 3: Habakkuk’s Prayer
* Habakkuk offers a poetic prayer praising God’s power and faithfulness.
* He expresses trust in God even amid hardship.
One of the most well-known passages is:
“Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines…
yet I will rejoice in the Lord.” (Habakkuk 3:17–18)
