Marriage as Covenant 💍

“Our culture has shrunk its moral vocabulary down to consent — a legal floor, not an ethical ceiling, that defines the bare minimum without defining the good.” Scripture offers something greater: safety, dignity, and connection.

We were made to be fully known in every way — naked and not ashamed. But without God, that security unravels into contradiction: wanting to be known and wanting to hide, both at once. What we really long for is someone to look into the deepest parts of us and not flinch, but say sign me up.

That’s what covenant is — not a statement of present feeling, but a promise of future loyalty. In Genesis 15, it’s God’s own presence that walks through the cut pieces to seal the promise. That promise is fulfilled at Jesus’ last meal: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.” Jesus walks the line. We offer covenant to each other only after receiving His costly faithfulness first. 🤍

Vision for the Jesus Follower 🌾

What defines your present moment — a boss, a loss, a lack? Or the nearness of Jesus walking toward you? Paul tells us the appointed time is short, not so we panic, but so we locate our contentment somewhere steadier than our circumstances. He knew shipwreck and plenty, loyal friends and desertion, and still learned to be content — not because life got easier, but because he was rooted in a love that surpasses knowledge.

Confidence in your calling means your present location isn’t determined by the worst thing in your past, but by the nearness of His presence to you right now. And freedom from comparison? It’s not pretending you don’t notice — it’s realizing His fullness crowds out the need to measure your story against anyone else’s.

Both Jesus and Paul lived this out single. Both are the authority here. 🤍

We live in a culture that tells us: of course singleness is good, because no one has a claim on me. But is that freedom actually working? Underneath it, we’re all still chasing an “authentic self” that keeps shifting — trying to satisfy inner states that never hold still, while the screens around us make it feel like everyone else has figured it out.

The early church offered something different. It didn’t say do whatever you want with your life — it said someone has authority over your life, and called that good news. Bondservant is one of the Christian’s primary identities, right alongside child of God: chained to Jesus with deep bonds.

Here’s the paradox: before you ever make a claim on Jesus, He makes a claim on you. He enters the limits of this broken world and shows you your value by giving Himself completely. That’s the one honest love that ties itself to you whether you’re faithful or not. 🤍

God and Singleness, God and Marriage: Is Singleness Good? 🕊️

Traditional culture says no — singleness is a stage to get through. Modern culture says yes — freedom to pursue your own fulfillment. Paul says something different from both: it is good, because Jesus’ death and resurrection mean the eternal is already breaking into the present. The church itself becomes family — the truest extension of bloodline.

That doesn’t make it easy. But the place you’re in isn’t random — it’s the place God has called you to, and His presence goes there too. You can hold your longings, even good ones, without believing you’re alone in them.

Every one of us carries some longing this broken world can’t fully satisfy. The invitation isn’t to stop longing — it’s to lay it on the table, open-handed, trusting God with however He chooses to answer. 🤍
