The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Utica Assembly 733 recently made 2 donations for Veterans Day and Thanksgiving to the Veterans Outreach Center, 726 Washington St. in Utica.
Veteran's Day donation consisted of 4 cases of mixed canned fruits, 1 case of evaporated milk, 2 large boxes of non-perishable food items, 3 bags of men's dress shirts and sports coats and 2 bags of mixed toiletries. Thanksgiving donation consisted of 101 turkeys (up from 65 last year) and 4 bags of clothing. Making donations to the VOC has been a year-round project since November 2017.

When the Knights of Columbus was founded, many Americans looked with suspicion upon Catholicism but held the Catholic explorer Christopher Columbus in high regard. Blessed Michael McGivney and the first Knights chose Columbus as a namesake because he served as an important symbol of courage, unity and hope among American Catholics, particularly Catholic immigrants. Happy Columbus Day to all Knights on this federal holiday!
