As we continue to reflect on our church's history, we look back at the records from January 6, 1907. On that day, the following expenses were presented to the board and confirmed by the congregation:

$3.99 - Williams & Betterton (lamp supplies)
$20.00 - Dixon & Son (gasoline and matches, May 1904 – Dec 1906)
$1.00 - New Vienna Reporter (printing)
$1.50 - F.W. Hadley (1 dozen lamp mantels)
$5.00 - C.E. Clark (janitor services for December 1906)
$16.41 - Wynn Stout (1/2 expenses for the morning, as per contract)

As we continue to reflect on 165 years of sharing the gospel, and 160 at our current location, we look back to those early ministers who often were here once a month as congregations in the area shared ministers.

Ministers from 1866 to 1906 were:
T.D. Garvin, J.W. Ruble, W.D. Moore, J.J. West, E.P. Couch, O.A. Randall, E.D. Murch, E.K. VanWinkle, O.A. Blackwell

In January 1907, Wynn Stout of Indianapolis, Indiana, moved to New Vienna to preach for the church two Sundays per month for $58.33 per month.

Robert G. Shepherd preached from November 1908 to December 5, 1909. His salary was $50 per month. According to the September 7, 1909, official board meeting, the financial health of the church was discussed and states:

"As the terms of employment with the pastor, Rev. Robert G. Shepherd, required a three months' notice of severing our relations with him, he was notified that the church would not be able to meet such conditions beyond December 1st, being the legal three months' notice."

We would like everyone to meet Kyle Dickerson, our new Fatherhood Coordinator here at New Life Clinic. He has been married to his lovely wife Jodi for 17 years and has 4 children.
Kyle comes to us with 20 years of full time ministry and 4 years of Christian Education experience. He believes that men stepping up in the family and in the church are critical for the Kingdom of God and for families.

The year of this picture is uncertain, but we believe it was taken on Mother’s Day. It predates 1957, as there’s no awning above the door and no lights flanking it. Some names are known, and we hope this adds to your enjoyment as we continue our journey down memory lane, celebrating 165 years of sharing the gospel.

As we celebrate 165 years of sharing the gospel, we also mark 160 years of building progress.

In 1964, the church launched an exciting new construction project. The Clark property, once used for classrooms, was cleared, and Fred Brown, chairman of the board, appointed a building committee made up of Carlos Achor (Chairman), Harold Briggs, Damon Hughes, Donald Roberts, and Raymond Saunders. Carlos Achor designed a forty-by-one-hundred-foot building with ten classrooms separated by folding doors, making it easy to convert into a large recreation room. After reviewing bids, the contract went to E.N. Loving Construction Company, and work began in May. A hallway was added to connect the annex to the church, and by September, construction was complete. On November 29, 1964, the building was joyfully dedicated, with Bro. Walter Cruzan giving the dedication address.

In February 1956, a fierce windstorm toppled the church’s chimney onto its roof, leading to extensive repairs and redecoration. During this time, the congregation gathered in the New Vienna School building. Inspired by the circumstances, church officers began envisioning an expansion program. Initially considering adding Sunday School rooms to the back of the church, they discovered the lot was too small. As a solution, they purchased the adjoining house and lot from C.R. (Dick) and Gertrude Clark. With some remodeling, the house served as Sunday School rooms until 1964.

As we move through 2026, we are celebrating 165 years of sharing the gospel and 160 years of building, additions, and changes.

Back in late 1945, Bro. Floyd H. Smith and the men of the church dreamed of expanding the basement, adding a third classroom above it, and giving the main auditorium a fresh remodel and redecorating. They brought in E.A. Lower to design blueprints for updates to the pulpit and baptistry. By 1947, while services were held in the schoolhouse, contractor Vaughn Huffman made it all happen—creating the new room above the expanded basement, adding a baptistry at the back of the auditorium, building a stage, covering the ceiling with acoustical tile, and installing new lighting fixtures on the stage and throughout the auditorium.
