Interesting thoughts-

—————-

A church can be full
and still forget why it gathers.

We were not called to create a place
where people are merely impressed, entertained,
or made comfortable.

We gather to behold God,
to be shaped by His Word,
to worship Christ,
and to carry His love into the world.

The Church is not a stage
built around our preferences.

It is a people redeemed
for His glory.

May we never settle for a faith
that only keeps us amused
when God is calling us
to be transformed.

Thoughts from a friend on “fear”:

As a child, I was always a bit confused about verses that said to "fear" God. I was taught in Sunday School, Church, and home, that God is Love. Did that mean that I should fear love? How can I fear someone or something that makes me feel so good and fulfilled or so right?

Later on, when I took Theology classes, I became aware that words like "fear the Lord" actually could be interpreted differently. When you have a "healthy" fear of something or someone, you tend to "obey" the rules or laws that pertain to it. Fear can also be thought of as having respect for the rules or laws. I most certainly loved my parents, but I guess I also had some fear for what I might miss if it meant being separated permanently from them. I hope that I would use this "fear" as the lessons or rules they had taught me to keep me on track. To make them proud of me.

For this reason, when I encounter words that seem to counter what I know, I take the time to look up other possible meanings, especially those which have been translated from another language. When you study something, like the Bible, it may take a little more time and effort to consider other possibilities, but that is just part of what studying means.

Just my thoughts.
