While you are away from school and out of your daily routine it can be easy to get out of the routine of your faith life. What are your plans this summer away from campus ministry or youth group. How can you invite God in this summer and grow closer to Him.

Happy Pentecost and Feast of Mary Help of Christians!

Sorry, I couldn’t separate them. These last 9 days, I prayed a Novena to the Holy Spirit and Mary Help of Christians, because our family celebrates our Mother today (the 24th) too. I wanted something that would encapsulate the two of them.

Every day of the Novena, I was amazed at the two.
Mary really trusted.
Mary, the spouse of the Spirit.
She really responded freely every day.
Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
And she sat in the midst of the disciples in this locked room, and they waited.
Waited in fear.
Waited in uncertainty.
Waited in joy that their friend had risen as He said.
But I just can’t imagine that Mary was experiencing the fear that they were.
A mother knows her son, and Mary had never walked alone a day in her life; the same Spirit that the Lord would breathe on them was the one that had led her to this room with them.

And that’s my hope, that with the help of the Spirit, I would believe everything the Lord has already shared with me. That I would trust when I really don’t know or understand, remain, rebuke fear, receive the peace that never stops, that I would let the Spirit lead me closer to heaven each day, and that while I was being led, the Lord would use me.

And the beautiful Psalm we heard today, “Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth,” is what we can ask. Because with Mary, we have seen the truth of it, with the disciples, with our saints, with the good people living out their faith in our lives. This is not an ancient prayer but one we see every day. The Spirit is MOVING, recreating, and in the Spirit’s movements we can say, Jesus is Lord. The Spirit is being sent to us, in our obedience, in purifying our will; we are the face of the earth that the Spirit is renewing.

Keep turning, let the Spirit guide you, ask for grace, remember the Lord has given you everything and more, turn to Mary, who can’t lead us without following the Spirit herself, and live fully so that by your obedience, you can renew the face of the earth for the one who created it.

Come Holy Spirit, Come!

Happy Feast of St. Mary Mazzarello!

Today, we get to celebrate a woman’s absolute gift to the church, her heart. She left us with the best gift: our Salesian Sisters.
Our teachers, friends, mothers, examples, and so much more.

In them, we can catch so many glimpses of who Mother Mazzarello was, faithful, simple, strong, capable, humble, generous, FUNNY, cheerful, grateful, and a good mother.

One of the great gifts of working for the Salesians is being close to our sisters. I know that when I am with them, they help me be a better version of myself; they listen, spend time, help, and point right to Jesus’s heart. And it’s not because they are born perfect; it’s because, like their foundress, they are striving for virtue, and that is hard work, but it’s done for the person in front of them.

I hope today you send a text, call a sister who has touched your life, and especially pray in thanksgiving for the life of St. Mary Mazzarello and the gift of her canonization. She has enriched the church with women who love God, who give their lives every day for you and pray for you, and entrust everything to our Blessed Mother.

Happy Feast of St. Dominic Savio!
He’s known for many things, but one of my favorites is the four promises he made before his First Communion:
1. I will go to Confession and Communion as often as my confessor will allow.
2. I will sanctify Sundays and holy days in a special way.
3. Jesus and Mary will be my friends.
4. Death, but not sin.
Pretty intense, but this intensity is what led him to be a saint. I love that St. Dominic Savio wasn’t afraid to be serious about his faith and share it so that St. John Bosco could walk with him. There’s so much we can learn from him, and maybe one of the most important is how he invited others into the faith.
He was a good friend, and he invited his friends to take the faith seriously as well. He showed the way of youthful holiness through prayer, a spirit of sacrifice, and a hardworking, joyful outlook as he went about his life.

Here are some ways to celebrate today:
Celebrate today!!
Write out your four personal promises
Invite a friend or friends into any one of these
Go to Mass
“Make a visit” to the Blessed Sacrament
Eating something delicious
Go to Reconciliation
Do a chore with JOY
Receive the Eucharist
Pray the Rosary with a friend
Do something that feels like PLAY
Make a sacrifice for a prayer intention
Practice a “Happy Death” clean up your space and your heart

“Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me?” John 14:9

It can be so easy to go through a whole day and miss how God was working the whole time. He works through our family, our friends, even strangers walking past us on the street.

While listening to this Gospel I thought to myself “why can’t this be easier?” Why can’t I just trust Jesus when he says, “I am the way and the truth and life”? Then I think of all of the people that God has put into my life that help me to know Him and love Him. Still doubt will come into my mind but God will continue to show Himself to me even if I am not paying attention in the moment.

My mercy endures forever.

These are the words I imagine the Lord speaking through these different pictures.

My child, I can’t help but share my mercy with you as you sit with me; it’s the gift I want to keep giving to you. I love it when you trust me completely, when you leave your hurt and sin with me so that I can free you. When you’re courageous and share the gifts that I’ve given you with those I love. When you listen to the witness of others, I meet you there. You see, my mercy isn’t just for you; my mercy helps you go out and meet people in their need. My mercy softens you; it helps you to look up at me while you let all shame fall to the side. My mercy frees you and helps you live fully alive in who I created you to be.

My mercy is the gift I will give to you freely forever because I won’t stop trying to reach you when you’ve gone far away. I will meet you in the Word, in the sacraments, in the bold moments, in the hidden ones, as you are greeted and seen by others.

You are mine, and I love what I have created even when you don’t love me. You won’t understand why, but that doesn’t matter so much. I will meet you now, and every day you look for me, you will find me. When you forget, I’ll still be there.

I will meet you again and again, for my mercy is from me, and it endures forever, just like I do.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

May we really live this season as one continuous celebration of the Lord’s conquering of death FOR US!! What a JOY to live in that truth no matter our circumstance, our fear, our worry, our confusion. Nothing is bigger than Him who gave His life for us so that we could live in peace with Him forever. Our God is actually alive. Dwelling with us. He is on the move for our sake every single day.

Lord, I have a heart that beats for you. Amen.

Lord, help me to fully enter into this week. Help me to walk with you and be open to your love. I thank you, I love you, I trust you.
