This Sunday, we dove into Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount to look past the surface of outward appearances and address what’s happening on the inside. Looking at Matthew 5, we unpacked the first two of Jesus' antithesis statements dealing with anger and lust. Jesus reveals that God’s standard goes far deeper than simply avoiding murder or adultery; harboring anger, using dehumanizing words, or nursing lustful thoughts are internal issues that sink us from within. True biblical righteousness means taking radical steps to pursue reconciliation and cut off temptations before they take root. But because we all fall short, it ultimately takes more than just behavioral adjustments; we need a new heart. Thankfully, Jesus is the ultimate surgeon, offering forgiveness, a fresh start, and His Holy Spirit to everyone who surrenders to Him.

This past Sunday, we continued our journey through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount by tackling a big question: What does it actually mean to be righteous? While our culture often uses human righteousness like a window by looking out to compare ourselves to others and judge who is "good," God’s standard of righteousness acts more like a mirror. As we read God's Word it reflects our true hearts, shows us where we fall short, and reminds us that none of us can be "good enough" on our own merit. But here is the beautiful news of the Gospel: Jesus came to fulfill the law for us. When we stop trying to prove ourselves at the window and step in front of the mirror of faith, Jesus steps in. Are you still trying to prove yourself at the window, or are you ready to step in front of the mirror?

We weren’t made to blend in; we’ve been chosen to stand out! This Sunday, we continued our walk through the Sermon on the Mount by diving into Matthew 5:13-16, where Jesus gives us our ultimate kingdom job description: to be the salt and light of the world. Salt preserves and brings out the best flavor, while light displaces the darkness. But so often, we choose to put on "spiritual camouflage" and hide our faith out of fear, letting our lives get cluttered by the world's values, or isolating ourselves in a holy bubble. Jesus calls us to drop the camo and let our light shine through genuine care and good deeds. How are you influencing the world around you to taste and see what God and His Kingdom are like?

This past Sunday, we kicked off a new message series diving into Jesus' Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Jesus began his teaching not with a "to-do" list, but with the Beatitudes; a beautiful, upside-down look at who is truly blessed in God's Kingdom. While the world tells us that strength, wealth, and self-sufficiency are the goals, Jesus flips the script with points like: the poor in spirit receive the Kingdom, the meek inherit the earth, the peacemakers will be called children of God, etc.

For many this is good news filled with hope for a better tomorrow! However, many will often try to attain the blessings without the posture that is blessed in God's kingdom. So we end up manufacturing our own comfort, peace, or way into God's Kingdom. But the true blessings are found in surrendering to and trusting in the Lord. Let’s stop seeking the hand of God and start seeking the heart of the Father.

**NEW MESSAGE SERIES**
Jesus gave His followers a clear mission in Matthew 28: “make disciples… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Jesus did a lot of teaching during His ministry filled with many commands for us to pursue, so where do we begin? Starting May 10, join us at Prairieview as we walk through Jesus’ most famous teaching called “the Sermon on the Mount.” Through this series, we’ll discover a great starting point on how Jesus calls His followers to live with purpose, humility, and deep trust in God; walking in the way of the Kingdom together.

Facing a mountain in your life that won't budge? We wrapped up our "Living by Faith" series by looking at what happens when we face impossible situations. So often, we fall into the trap of putting our faith in our own abilities or in a specific outcome that we want. But Jesus reminds us in Matthew 17 that it’s not about the quantity of our faith; it’s about the object of our faith. Even having the smallest faith about the size of a mustard seed’s can lead to the impossible happening. But the goal isn't to have a faith that is great. Rather it's a call to have faith in the one who is great and who can move mountains; for the battle belongs to him.
