This morning, a little after celebrating Mass I stopped out this morning to pay my respects, not only to all the deceased but also to remember especially all those who died who served our country. If you were unable to join us for Mass, please if you get a chance, stop at any cemetery to remember those who died in service to our nation.
I always am struck by these words that are said when the flag is presented to a family member. “On behalf of the President of the United States, the United States [insert branch of service], and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one's honorable and faithful service." Today we are truly grateful for their faithful service and we express our gratitude through raising them up in prayer!
Today is not about the “unofficial” start of summer or Memorial Day Cookouts, but rather should be an opportunity for us in appreciation for those who died in the line of duty and those who served faithfully and have since entered eternal life to remember them in our prayers!
“Eternal rest grant unto them O’ Lord and may perpetual light shine upon. Through the mercy of God, may they rest in peace. Amen!”
Esta mañana, poco después de celebrar la misa, me detuve esta mañana para presentar mis respetos, no solo a todos los fallecidos, sino también para recordar especialmente a todos los que murieron que sirvieron a nuestro país. Si no pudo unirse a nosotros para la misa, por favor, si tiene la oportunidad, deténgase en cualquier cementerio para recordar a aquellos que murieron al servicio de nuestra nación.
Siempre me sorprenden estas palabras que se dicen cuando la bandera se presenta a un miembro de la familia. "En nombre del Presidente de los Estados Unidos, los Estados Unidos [insertar rama de servicio], y una nación agradecida, por favor acepte esta bandera como un símbolo de nuestro agradecimiento por el honorable y fiel servicio de su ser querido". ¡Hoy estamos verdaderamente agradecidos por su fiel servicio y expresamos nuestra gratitud criándolos en oración!
¡Hoy no se trata del comienzo "no oficial" del verano o de las barbacoas del Día de los Caídos, sino que debería ser una oportunidad para nosotros en agradecimiento por aquellos que murieron en el cumplimiento del deber y aquellos que sirvieron fielmente y desde entonces han entrado en la vida eterna para recordarlos en nuestras oraciones!
"Concédeles el descanso eterno, Oh Señor, y que la luz perpetua brille sobre ellos. A través de la misericordia de Dios, que descansen en paz. ¡Amén!"
