I received a call this morning from a client asking if we could help a family with toiletries, food and clothes. Because of funding, we’re only opened on Monday’s & Tuesday’s but when things of this nature come up, we’re on it!
As I was leaving, Chuck our Engineer informed me, a homeless client, recognizable by his multitude of tats, had returned to see a Doctor. As he came out of the bathroom he collapsed. He apparently had overdosed, the clinic staff tended to him until paramedics and/or firemen delivered narcan, he came through and was rushed to the hospital.
He also told me, a homeless young lady living out of an SUV, with six kids, came to the building for help. I wasn’t called, but the guys who work in the building all went in their wallets and gave money.
The Arthur Monday Multi-Service Center, in which we’re housed, was named after a remarkable man who helped those in this community in need. I’ve heard wonderful things about him from my seniors, my prayer is that his legacy doesn’t stop with his name being brandished on a building, but yet carried on by the churches. I wish, no I pray that the churches in Algiers, come together again, like their Elders once did, to revitalize the community. Over the 22 years I’ve been there, I’ve seen businesses come and go, it’s heartbreaking because they all played a vital role in this community. I pray to God, the Almighty, they once again, find it in their heart of hearts, to take ownership of UCA, be a Steward and help our community. If it’s for UCA to continue, only God knows, what I do know is God is able! 🙏🏾
United Churches has become untied churches. Which one will help to carry on the legacy? Which of our churches will help continue on God’s mission? We’ve been talked about, dropped, chizzled away at and ridiculed but God’s got us to help this community for 55 years, and we’re still holding on. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers, thank you! 🙏🏾
