“Remember why you came here. Remember your life is sacred.” - Peia
So much is happening in the world, it feels difficult to contain it all. Never in a million years would I have thought that we would see what we are seeing now… that American streets would be plagued by a masked Gestapo?! The ICE raids are truly an horrific thing... like the Proud Boys given permission to “Just go ahead guys, do your thing.” In many cases clearly that’s exactly what they are.
The citizens of Chicago (and others) are doing such a beautiful job standing up to them, yet we continue to hear of children traumatized, US citizens arrested, people sedated and deported, and the most inhumane treatment at the modern concentration camps euphemistically called detainment centers.
It’s heartbreaking, disgusting, and infuriating to watch it all. There is comfort, though, in knowing that none of us are alone in feeling this way. If we had fair and free elections today, i know that the gang of criminals now running things would be turned out so quickly. But alas we don’t, and there’s no guarantee we will. I feel the deepest respect and admiration for people all over this country - particularly judges and the offices of patriotic Secretaries of State - who are doing everything possible to push back against the authoritarian onslaught now crashing down upon us.
By the way, they have no intention of reopening the government. They love not having that pesky Congress breathing down their neck. They’re very busy building their bunker. Hungry citizens are apparently no big deal.
It’s OK to feel all this sadness, by the way. Every once in a while, you have to stop and feel the pain of it all. It’s part of the process. It’s like having a good cry. And then that’s over, you get up and you get back into the struggle. Miracles are happening even now. The darkness is upon us, yes, but the light is ascending. We have a long way to go but in my heart I know we’re getting there.
I saw the flower pictured above in Buenes Aires and it took my breath away. It’s very helpful to be reminded of the genius of nature at such a time as this. As sad as this moment can be I remain totally and absolutely convinced that in the long run, freedom and mercy and love will yet prevail.
