Our book club meets every Sunday morning at 10am until noon. The first hour is for breakfast and chit-chat. The book club convenes at 11am. Currently we are reading "The Bible", a collective work with multiple authors.

We all need to unite in prayer. 2020 has been an unforgettable year. There has been lots of good along with the bad. Our school systems stepping up to make sure our kids got fed made me so proud of our schools. That's just one example. And we need prayers for our nation, to end this division we have between one another; for this election year, that we participate to elect the best person for the job; for our state government, that our state leaders make informed decisions on our behalf; for our county officials, that they help all our small communities navigate these unusual times; for our city government, that we make the best decisions for our citizens; and last, but not least, our first responders who are put in harm's way day in and day out to protect us. Stay safe. God bless us all.

Blessed Palm Sunday! My internet decided to go intermittent today and I have not mastered holding a Zoom meeting on my phone so I will share the scriptures from today and some thought questions for your own reflection. Palm Sunday, Jesus arrives in Jerusalem the week of Passover. The crowds are waiting for him, shouting "Hosanna" and wave palm branches. It was really a greeting fit for a king.

4 Days Later

Matthew 26:14-35 Why couldn't the high priests just arrest Jesus in broad daylight? Why did they have to find an inside man to betray Jesus?
Matthew 26:25 has several variations in English translations which suggests that the Greek text is unclear and puzzling. The NASB, "you have said it yourself", with it being in italics shows the need to fill in certain words because the statement was difficult to understand. One bible scholar suggests that Jesus says just enough to give Judas a jolt but still leaves the other disciples wondering what he means.
Read John 6:52-58 What is Jesus saying about his body and his blood? What do they represent? Now read Matthew 26:26-28. Would anyone listening to Jesus misunderstand his meaning? Before the last supper, what meaning did bread and wine have? What meaning do they have now? John 6:54 So what's the real meaning behind the bread and the wine?
Exodus 12:20-23 Jesus often took old Jewish traditions and gave them new meaning. What clues does this story give us about the bread and the wine at the Last Supper?
Jeremiah 31:31-34 What is a covenant? What is the covenant Jesus mentions in Matthew 26:28?
Matthew 27:15-44 in verse 24, why does Pilate wash his hands? Is there any evidence in verses 15-26 that Pilate was not, in fact, innocent in the death of Jesus?
Isaiah 52:13-53:7 This prophecy was given hundreds of years before the birth of Christ. What parts came true in the crucifixion of Christ?
Jews, Romans, and even the robbers hanging from crosses on either side of Jesus all mocked and reviled Him. What does it mean to be mocked? This prophecy includes both the physical and non-physical abuse that Jesus suffered.
Luke 23:39-43 Compare with Matthew 26:44 Apparently, one of the robbers had a change of heart.

In just a few days time, Jesus's life went from the highest high to the lowest low. And today, in the midst of this pandemic, we have gone from riding a high to dipping into the lows. It is still a roller coaster for us, but Praise God, He has already won the victory! God is still in control and he promises to work ALL things together for the good of those who love Him. Let us continue in faith and in love and in trust in the one who is always faithful. To God be the glory, now and forevermore. Amen.

This morning we will read the Nativity and then sing some Christmas songs celebrating the birth of the Christ child. It doesn't matter that Dec. 25th wasn't the actual date. What matters is that we remember. When we celebrate his birth we also celebrate his life, death, and resurrection.

We are just finishing a study on The Way of Blessing - our calling as followers of Christ is to be a blessing to those around us, whether they are people of faith or not and to bless our neighborhoods, towns, state and country. A teaching that has gotten lost in the shuffle of who we are supposed to be in Christ. So for all of you who might read this, I bless you in the name an authority of Christ that you might know the reality of His love and the depth of His mercy and the greatness of His blessings in your life by the power of the Holy Spirit.
