The Passion of Christ
“To God Be The Glory, For The Wonderful Things, He Has Done through His Son Jesus The Christ.”
For all of us who truly have put our trust, our faith in Jesus The Christ, this week is a time to reminisce and contemplate the transformation that has been given to us by Him and His sacrifice on the cross.
In our culture (Western) this week is known as Holy Week or Passion Week. The week before Resurrection Sunday; beginning with Palm Sunday the day Jesus entered Jerusalem and ends on Resurrection Sunday. It covers the Last Supper, His Crucifixion, and the day Jesus was raised from the grave by the power of God’ Spirit.
We as believers celebrate the works of Christ all year long, but this week it is highlighted because we are reminded that it is the basis of our faith. Jesus's sacrifice was the fulfillment of God’s promises that were prophesied throughout the Old Testament. Even though He did not walk the earth until His birth to Mary and Joseph, that was brought about by the Holy Spirit, and born in Bethlehem, He and His works had already existed throughout the entire Bible.
He was there in the very beginning according to John 1:1-2“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” Many of the Old Testament Prophecies were fulfilled this final week of Jesus physical life (Isaiah 53:1-12).
So, as we celebrate this week, we should never forget it was impossible for any one of us to be good enough to be in the presence of a Holy God. This week we as believers celebrate because Jesus died and made a way (salvation) for all of humanity.
The Old Testament law offered many sacrifices to God, but they were just a covering. When Jesus stepped into humanity the world beheld the perfect sacrifice of God. The only one who could atone for our sins once and for all. So, as we celebrate this week and especially Resurrection Day, let’s never forget that Jesus gave His life out of His great love for us. Every step Jesus took toward Calvary was intentional, every lash He received had our name on it, and every spike had His grace and mercy for us on it.
If there ever was a time to shout now is the time.
So, once again “To God Be The Glory, For The Wonderful Things, He Has Done through His Son Jesus The Christ.”
