Hello Race Fans!
Our annual pinewood derby is this Saturday morning (March 2), in the gym at Locust Grove. If you have not completed your cars, you better get moving. Registration will open at 9:00 and will close promptly at 10:00. Races will begin immediately following. We will race the Cubscout cars first. Remember that all cars in the Cubscout class must comply with the Talakto rules listed herehttps://talakto.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/2019-Talakto-District-Pinewood-Derby.pdf
(Outlaw) non-scouter cars (adults/siblings) will race second. The looks competition will be judged and voted on by the scouts. We will be running an outlaw class this year for adults and siblings. Your outlaw car must meet the same rules with form/fit/function, however all restrictions on wheels and axles are removed for outlaw cars.
The church will be setting up for an event immediately following our race, we request that everyone who can, please help us break down and pack up so we can clear the church for the next event.
Setup with possible test & tune
We will meet at the church Friday evening to setup for the event. Once the track is setup, we will make it available for pre-race test and tune as long as time permits. The more help we have setting up, the faster and more likely testing and tuning will be. More details about Friday evening times will follow later in the week.
Last minute checks for first time racers.
While there are some die-hard pinewood builders, if this is your first time to race a pinewood derby, your goal should be to get your car down the track. Everything else is icing on the cake (no we are not providing cake). Be sure that all wheels are spinning freely and are relatively straight. You should also try to get your car to as close to 5 ounces as possible. Also, be careful with weight placement. Sticking weights to the bottom of the car without drilling out, often causes track interference. If you have any questions or need clarification please ask.
