Today the Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her nativity reminds us of God's loving plan of salvation and the hope that entered the world through her. May we follow Mary's example of faith and trust each day. Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother!

As we celebrate Labor Day, let us take a moment to recognize the dignity of every worker and the many ways their efforts help families, communities, and our church flourish. May we always value the work of every person, seek justice for all laborers, and give thanks for the opportunity to serve God through our daily work.

At Mass this upcoming Sunday, the Gospel teaches that Jesus places a high priority on reconciling with someone who has sinned against you. Are there people in your life who easily forgive?
See you at Mass!

Prayer for Vocations —

Dear God,

Give us the courage and strength to answer when You call! Give us clarity and trust to hear Your soft invitations. Give us the love to respond, and the bravery to take the steps that will bring us ever closer to You. Amen.

Our brothers and sisters in Nepal are facing unimaginable loss after catastrophic flooding devastated communities. Here’s how we can stand with them in prayer and solidarity.

On August 26, catastrophic flooding swept through communities along Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River and downstream through the Trishuli river system, causing widespread devastation. Authorities have reported significant loss of life, with many people still missing as rescue efforts continue.

Families are grieving loved ones and facing the destruction of homes, roads, bridges, and livelihoods. Our prayers are with all those affected as Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Caritas Nepal and local partners work to understand urgent needs and help communities begin to recover.

CRS is working with Caritas Nepal and local partners to identify the support families need most, including shelter, food, clean water and hygiene supplies. Caritas Nepal’s local relationships help responders assess conditions in affected communities and reach families even when roads, bridges and communication infrastructure are damaged.

The reach of the local Church, strengthened by the solidarity of the global Church, is especially powerful in moments like these. Your gift helps CRS and the local Church respond quickly and compassionately, bringing emergency relief and urgent support to our sisters and brothers in Nepal.

Loving God,

Draw near to the people of Nepal in this time of fear and loss. Receive into your mercy all who have died and surround those still waiting for news about their loved ones with your steady presence.

In the silence after the rushing water, be present to every family facing loss, every community clearing a path forward and every person wondering what comes next.

May we respond with compassion, generosity and courage, trusting that your love does not abandon your people in their time of need.

Amen.

Thank you for joining us in prayer and solidarity with our sisters and brothers in Nepal.

Virtues, EXPLAINED!
Virtuous zeal refers to an all-consuming love, which has for its object the Lord Himself. Closeness with God is impeded by anything contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ, so no person can be “zealous” for God if they are violent or hateful.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK —

This weekend at Mass, we heard about how Peter does not want to accept Jesus’ destiny as the Messiah who suffers greatly and dies. How do you process difficult news or information?

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK —

Plenty of people are drawn to Jesus. Curious about him. Inspired by him. But can they carry the cross? Today, Jesus tells us that we cannot have one without the other — it is Christ and the cross, or nothing at all. Which will we choose?
