Congregation Beth El, New London, CT

Congregation Beth El, New London, CT The mission of Congregation Beth El is to foster a welcoming, diverse, and egalitarian community within the framework of Conservative Judaism.

Congregation Beth El is a conservative synagogue steeped in tradition, yet open to new and exciting ideas. Our congregation aims to provide a haven of peace and spirituality wherever and whenever we pray together. We are a welcoming, inclusive, egalitarian Jewish congregation that follows traditions in prayer and religious worship while looking for alternative learning opportunities whenever possi

ble. In keeping with conservative Jewry's teachings, women take part in all aspects of our religious services and hold important positions within the Beth El community. Founded in 1932, Beth El has grown and matured over the years, yet it maintains diverse options for its new members and welcomes all new congregants, be they singles, couples, seniors, families of various compositions. It is our hope that these new members will bring ideas to share, as new membership is the lifeblood of any congregations. We have an active adult education program which provides us with dynamic speakers and beautiful concerts. We also offer fun and festive family-oriented activities. Additionally, Beth El holds get-togethers and services in conjunction with other local synagogues. If you are looking for a synagogue to enrich your life, we hope you will consider joining our family.

Recently Beth El ran a campaign to replenish L+M Hospital’s supplies of pediatric comfort and activity items for their emergency department. The synagogue was able to present the Development Department with a check as well a large box filled with crayons, markers, coloring & activity books, stickers, sensory and stress-relief items, and small toys for all ages. We are grateful to all our congregants who donated generously to this worthy cause.

Ruth Radin brought her granddaughter, Ada, to present the supplies to the Mary Anne Stchur and Alice Sochia at the Hospital. Ada had broken her arm last year and was given a stuffed animal, balloons and other treats, so she knew how important this was for other children.

This message is from Bethami Gold who lives in Modiin, Israel.
"Just sharing more about the types of families your Knitzvah things are benefitting.

My friend is a social worker who works with kids of reserve duty parents. She quotes a teen she works with who said "my dad is guarding the whole country except for his own son".

Many families are having some really tough times - peace time comes slowly, that's for sure.

Your hats and scarves and things especially with the tags on them help them remember that there are people looking out for the families at home too."
Sometimes it isn't about the meal we prepare for someone or the hat that was created, but instead letting the recipient know that someone cares about them.

Judy Fetterman Engel just received this text from her niece, Bethami Gold who lives in Israel.
"Thank you kind Knitzvah Ladies of the Beth El-New London community 🤩
The wonderful things you knit are so beautiful and heartwarming (not to mention body-warming😉). Thank you for your kind and large hearts and for supporting Israeli children whose fathers have been away doing Reserve duty. Am Yisrael Chai!" This is how we made it happen; Vita Goldstein was visiting Elsie Fetterman and picked up the handmade items and brought them back to Israel to deliver them to Bethami who got them to her friend who distributed them. Great multigenerational supply chain!
