What Will Grow?

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will [most certainly] cause righteousness and justice and praise to spring up before all the nations [through the power of His word]. Isaiah 61:11

Something will grow in the garden of your life today. Will it be an unsightly w**d or a beautiful flower? Will it be what you’ve planned and created by your thoughts and actions, or will it simply be what you’ve allowed by your carelessness and lack of clear direction. Whatever you plant will grow in the fertile ground that is today. Fail to plant, fail to tend the garden, and something will still grow there. But it probably won’t be to your liking. Walking through a neighborhood, it is easy to spot the gardens which are carefully and lovingly tended. They’re the bright and bountiful ones. Likewise, a life that’s well tended is filled with the bright, beautiful rewards of that care and effort. What will grow in your life today? The fertile ground is waiting for the seed of purpose and the care of your commitment. Today you can grow something of value and beauty. Just decide to make it so right now.

Father in heaven, as we look outside our windows, we see growth happening all around, though not always of something we want to grow. Help us today to choose to plant the right seeds. To choose our actions with thought and purpose. Help us to be gardeners, to w**d out the things we don’t want to grow and cultivate what is good. In Jesus name, AMEN!

Tend your own garden, savor the blossoms and trim the w**ds.

What Does Your Mind Dwell On?

Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. Colossians 3:2

When all is quiet, when the necessities of the day have been tended to, when your mind is free of any constraints, what do you think about? Do you dwell on anger, limitation, worry, or envy? Or do you fill your mind with thoughts of love, hope, possibility, confidence, abundance and generosity? Wherever your mind lives, that is where your life is headed. The thoughts you think most frequently, willingly and intensely have the power to shape and define the reality of your life. What thoughts are shaping you right now? Your thoughts are independent of every constraint imposed upon you. Even in the most unfortunate, desperate situations it is possible to fill your mind with the loftiest thoughts. Indeed, it takes effort and intention to direct your thoughts. Yet it is an ability which no outside situation or limitation can deny to you. Thinking alone won’t get you anywhere. Yet what you think will surely determine who you are.

Father in heaven, in these quiet moments before the day begins, help us to set our minds on the things above! Teach us how to choose to get rid of those negative thoughts and to remember Your goodness in all things. In Jesus name, AMEN!

Whatever you dwell on in the conscious grows in your experience.

Be Prepared

Go to the ant, O lazy one; observe her ways and be wise, which, having no chief, Overseer or ruler, she prepares her food in the summer and brings in her provisions [of food for the winter] in the harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8

Each minute you spend in preparation saves at least five to ten minutes worth of catching up. Get out ahead of yourself. Prepare for what is coming next. When opportunities come your way, they won’t wait until you get ready for them. You must already be prepared to meet the challenges and quickly seize those opportunities, or they’ll leave you behind. Preparation makes the difference between merely offering empty promises and really being able to deliver. Those who are prepared can deliver right away. Those who are not can only try. Guess who comes out on top! What can you do right now to prepare for tomorrow? Each day, every time you can, make the extra effort to better prepare yourself. It is time well invested, which begins to pay dividends almost immediately. Prepare ahead, work ahead, and you’ll surely get ahead.

Father in heaven, it’s been said that anyone can steer a ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course. Teach us to prepare well, to chart the course before we steer off in the wrong direction, being prepared for any storms that may come our way. In Jesus name, AMEN!

Opportunities do not schedule appointments; you always have to be prepared.

A Divided Mind

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in). Matthew 6:24

Worry fragments the mind. A divided mind keeps a person from doing anything wholeheartedly. It causes inefficiency. None of us needs to be taught to worry. It comes naturally. But it is helpful to know what causes worry. Worry is often the result of a divided mind. And indecision squanders our energies.

Someone drew a cartoon of a donkey standing between two haystacks. The aroma of the hay tantalized the hungry donkey. He would look toward one haystack and start in that direction; then he would think of the other haystack, look back, and start toward it. The outcome suggested by the cartoon was that the poor donkey, standing between the two fragrant haystacks, starved to death simply because he could never make up his mind.

A divided mind may eventually destroy us. That is why we need to have our mind fixed on the Lord. God fills our minds with serenity because He has made it possible to be at peace with Him, with ourselves, and with others. He has removed the guilt of sin. Through Christ alone He has provided forgiveness for all our sins. The God of peace helps us to overcome a divided mind. Your attitude not your achievements gives you happiness. Fame and Fortune are fleeting. The satisfaction that comes from achievement or a new possession is momentary at best. Seek to be inspired. Develop a great attitude. The thoughts in your mind will always be more important than the things in your life, or the stuff in your wallet!

If we put things between us and Christ, it is idolatry, and causes worry, a division of thought, if we put Christ between us and things, it is victory. Whatever you are willing to walk away from you have conquered.

Father in Heaven, unite my mind with Your love through Christ. Help me to see and hear Your purpose and will for my life, and cause me to walk in it; so that I can dwell in peace. Allow me to put nothing between Me and Thee. In Jesus Name. AMEN!.
