It was a busy week at St. Andrew’s. On Sunday Pastor Clement Kigugu, founder of Overcomers Refugee Services, joined us at both morning services. Clement delivered the sermon, speaking about the plight of refugees and the work of Overcomers in the context of the morning’s readings. The 10am Eucharist was enriched by musician and song writer Luke Concannon and his wife Stephanie offering prelude, postlude and service music. Luke had helped our young choristers compose their own song last year and did the same this year on Monday at our Youth Choir gathering.
On Thursday the sanctuary was packed for a discussion by parishioner Michele Flournoy and friend of the parish Jared Goldfarb, addressing U.S., Israel, and Iran: Actions, Reactions, and Implications. The two, from different perspectives, spoke of recent developments in the Middle East and their implications for the United States, Israel, and the world. Jared is a religious scholar, historian, interfaith leader, and peace activist. A New Hampshire native, Jared has called Jerusalem home for more than 30 years. Michèle Flournoy served as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy in the Obama Administration, and has held many senior leadership positions in both government and the private sector, focusing on national defense and foreign affairs. She currently is a co-founder and managing partner of WestExec Advisors, working with clients to manage geopolitical strategies and risks.
