Sunday AM Sermon outline for June 14, 2026
Come to the Allegheny Valley Church of Christ on Marlboro Drive in New Kensington this coming Sunday morning at 11 to hear this entire message.

God's Wish for You
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!

The call to choose life is God's loving desire for mankind to accept His salvation. Moses forecasts mankind's future disobedience and God's willingness to always take us back.

Deuteronomy 30:2-5 If at that time you and your children return to the LORD your God, and if you obey with all your heart and all your soul all the commands I have given you today, then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes. (Even if you’ve made a sinful mistake worthy of being forsaken by God and you come to Him) He will have mercy on you and…the LORD your God will gather you from there and bring you back again...

Deuteronomy 30:6 The LORD your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love Him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!

Deuteronomy 30:9-10 The LORD your God will then make you successful in everything you do…for the LORD will again delight in being good to you...The LORD your God will delight in you if you obey His voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction (Scriptures), and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.

Deuteronomy 30:11-14 This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach. It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’ It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?’ No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16 Now listen! (listen with desire to do what you hear) Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster. For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep His commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in His ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you...

Deuteronomy 30:17-18 But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods (obeying the worlds reasoning or your own reasoning - making yourself more important than doing what God commands), then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life…

Jesus declares that He came to give us life abundantly, reinforcing the idea that choosing life is ultimately about choosing a relationship with God through Him:
Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized (immersed in water), and wash your sins away, calling on His (Christ's) name.’
Read Romans 6:3-13

Our Mission: While we still have a choice, for God's sake, choose the life He's offering.

Faith the Fire
Daniel 3:14-15...Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden statue I have set up? Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the statue I have made, very good. But if you refuse to worship, you will be thrown at once into the blazing fiery furnace. Then what god will be able to deliver you from my hands?”

The God that brought Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego through their fiery ordeal is the same God that will bring you through yours.

God works with those who have the faith to live within the covenant He made with them:
Malachi 4:2 But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like calves from the stall.

The tassel hanging from the hem of a Jewish man's tallit represents the covenant that God made with Israel - the hem is the “wing”. The woman with a blood issue, took hold of God's covenant tassel “wing” on the hem of Jesus' tallit and was healed.
Read Luke 8:42-48

We now enter into a covenant with God though His Son's death, burial and resurrection:
Romans 6:4 We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.

To have the faith (to see) what and why the fiery ordeals happen we must be born again:
John 3:3-5 Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”...“Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
Read: Acts 2:38

We may not be facing a fiery furnace, but the trials we must face are of a fiery kind:
James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy...when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

God has a unique plan prepared for each circumstance we face. The help we seek may not be in the way we want it to be. We must trust God's plan and purpose for the ordeal:
Daniel 3:16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar...If the God whom we serve exists, then He is able to deliver us from the blazing fiery furnace and from your hand...But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”

God's plan for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego was fulfilled by their faith:
Daniel 3:25-27 Nebuchadnezzar asked, “Did we not throw three men into the fire?” “Look!, I see four men, unbound and unharmed, walking around in the fire - and the fourth looks like a son of the gods!”...Nebuchadnezzar called out, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out!”...Not a hair of their heads was singed, their robes were unaffected, and there was no smell of fire on them.

Our Mission: Faith the fiery ordeals with an obedient trust that Christ is in that fire with us.

Sunday AM Sermon outline for May 31, 2026
Come to the Allegheny Valley Church of Christ on Marlboro Drive in New Kensington this coming Sunday morning at 11 to hear this entire message.

Tune My Heart
Psalm 125:4 O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you.

Our hearts, like stringed instruments, constantly go out of tune. God wants our hearts in tune with His.

How’s your heart today?
God's Word teaches that the spiritual condition of our heart literally determines the direction of our life. If the heart drifts from God, the rest of our life will follow.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Our lives are meant to sound like our Heavenly Father.
When a guitar is out of tune, the song that is meant to be beautiful can sound more like nails on a chalkboard. You know something’s not right. So, you have to stop and take the time to gently restore each string to its right tone so the song will be beautiful again.

When we stray from God, disobey Him or follow our own song, then there’s something about our lives that just seems off...out of tune...not quite right.

The ancients believed that the consistent lifestyle of a person is the result of a composition of many experiences that are in harmony with the world around them.

What our life is in tune with is the “song” all will see and hear.
What is your song? What happened to your life to create it?
God has a better song for us. A song so grand of a production that people will be moved to a better song as they witness the power of God’s divine work in us.

How do we get our heart in tune with God - tune it to Christ's heart, His death and His new life:
Romans 6:4 We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.
Read John 3:3-5 Acts 2:38

How we keep our hearts in tune with God:
2 Peter 1:5-9 …make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

The benefit of a heart in tune with God:
Psalm 125:4 O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you.

When sin knocks our heart of tune with God, we must confess it, repent and let God fix it. Then, our lives will once again flow in the rhythm of God’s grace and goodness.

We must develop our ability to tune into God’s heart at all times through His Word and prayer daily and by tuning out distractions that block Him out, tune out doubt, unbelief, and negativity that come at us every day.

Our Mission: Allow God to tune our hearts to His through Christ to be the song - His song - we were meant to be.
