Happy Labor Day Weekend!

The only Mass on Monday, September 7 will be at 7AM at St. Stanislaus, all other Masses and Confessions are cancelled, the churches will remain closed for private prayer, and the Parish Offices will be closed for the day.

On Monday, August 24, a group of students from Kellenberg Memorial High School on Long Island visited St. Mary and the tomb of Blessed Michael McGivney with Deacon Patrick (soon to be ordained in November 2026). Some students served in the 12:00 Mass with Fr. Dolan and Fr. Elmer, and afterwards they had a tour of the church. God bless you all in the upcoming school year!

Jan & Renata Kwasnik of Holy Cross Church in New Britain gave a breathtaking concert in Polish and English on Sunday, August 23 at St. Stanislaus Church to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Częstochowa. Fr. Madejski and Fr. Kendrioski then led devotional prayers, followed by a Polish dinner!

Our Lady of Częstochowa is a painting of Our Lady that legend holds was painted by St. Luke the Evangelist on a piece of wood from a table that the Holy Family used. It was eventually brought to Poland in the 14th century and placed at the monastery of Jasna Góra in the town of Częstochowa, where she was named Queen of Poland.

In the 15th century, the monastery was attacked and the painting badly damaged by a sword slashing the Virgin’s cheek. After every attempt to fix the painting, the scars miraculously returned to her cheek.

Her shrine has become a place of many healings as well as a place where her intercession is sought for the protection of the Polish people.

¡Que Viva la Virgen del Cisne!

The Ecuadorian community at St. Francis Church gathered on Sunday, August 23 to celebrate La Virgen del Cisne, a miraculous vision of Our Lady in the town of El Cisne, Ecuador.

In 1594, there was a devastating drought and the indigenous people were about to abandon their village due to starvation. Our Lady appeared to a young shepherd girl and told them to stay, that she would protect them, and to build a church in her honor. The rains came and the villagers built the shrine, commissioning a statue of Our Lady to be carved and placed there.

Every August in Ecuador the statue is carried on pilgrimage through southern Ecuador, stopping at parishes along the way for La Virgen to visit the people. It is one of the largest religious processions in South America.

Here in New Haven, parishioners gathered and prayed for 9 nights in a novena, leading up to the Mass and festival on August 23 with traditional folk dances and music and food. Special thanks to the two priests from Ecuador who were able to join and lead the faithful in their devotions!

On Sunday, August 23, we were blessed to have the major relics of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque present at St. Mary Church for veneration, thanks to the Knights of Columbus.

St. Margaret Mary was a 17th Century French nun who mystically received the Sacred Heart devotion from Jesus in a series of visions. Her relics have been traveling the United States on loan from her shrine in France this summer.

Providentially, KofC Olympia Council #394 from Mary's Nativity-St. Ann Parish in Flushing, NY was visiting St. Mary Church on pilgrimage to Blessed McGivney’s tomb at the 11:00AM Mass, and carried the reliquary in procession after Mass to the statue of the Sacred Heart, where it remained for veneration. Many members of the council are of Chinese Catholic ethnicity, and their priest Fr. Yanjun Zhang concelebrated Mass with Fr. Kendrioski.
