New Haven Friends Meeting (Quakers)

New Haven Friends Meeting (Quakers) Worshipping God in spirit and truth What do Quakers believe? There is no official Quaker creed. But there are beliefs we hold in common.

Each has different words to describe our beliefs and our experience of Spirit. Here is one Quaker’s list of core Quaker beliefs:
There is a living, dynamic, spiritual presence at work in the world which is both within us and outside of us. There is that of God in everyone. Each person is capable of the direct and unmediated experience of God. Our understanding and experience of God is nurtured and

enlarged in community. The Bible is an important spiritual resource, and the life and teachings of Jesus are relevant for us today. The revelation of God’s truth is continuing and ongoing. We welcome truth from whatever source it may come. Our inward experience of God transforms us and leads us into outward expressions of faithful living, witness, and action. Modeling God’s presence in our lives is more important than espousing beliefs.

One good piece of news

👏👏👏 After decades of advocacy from FCNL’s network and the broader peace movement, the 2002 Iraq Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) has finally been repealed!

This is a big win for peace — and a historic milestone in our advocacy efforts to urge Congress to reclaim its constitutional war powers and end endless wars.

And it is a MAJOR testament to the power of grassroots advocacy and the persistent efforts of so many of you in FCNL’s network. THANK YOU!

We can demand that the US and other nuclear weapon states step "Back from the Brink." Sam King of our Meeting interviewed Dr. Ira Helfand, who serves on the International Steering Group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), the recipient of the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. He is also immediate past president of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW)—founding partner of ICAN and itself the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985—and co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility, IPPNW’s US affiliate.

As the specter of nuclear war re-emerges on the global stage, it is more important than ever to understand the nature of nuclear weapons, the geopolitical an...

Quakers all over Connecticut support the CT Environmental Rights Amendment. Thanks for this great article clarifying what it would do to protect our environment.

At a time when federal regulations are being dismantled, it is more important than ever to empower the people of CT to protect their environment.

Several Quaker groups, a Baptist denomination and a Sikh temple challenged the Trump administration’s order allowing immigration agents to make arrests at churches.

We support the CT Environmental Rights Amendment. Environmental rights are fundamental human rights.
