St. Luke's Episcopal Church

St. Luke's Episcopal Church From Monday thru Saturday, we offer Morning Prayer at 9 a.m. on our page. Each Sunday we offer Morning Prayer at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Today, St.

We are the third oldest African American congregation in the Episcopal Church set in the heart of New Haven at the start of Whalley Avenue not far from the Yale campus. Our Sunday worship is also on our page. We also offer Evening Prayer on special Saint’s Days – please check our page for more info. We are an Episcopal Church in the heart of New Haven was founded on June 7, 1844,

at a meeting of the “colored members” of the parish of Trinity Episcopal Church, New Haven. One of the founding members was Alexander DuBois, grandfather of W.E.B DuBois the great African American historian and civil rights leader. Saint Luke’s was one of the first churches in the country, and the third oldest Episcopal Church, with a predominantly African American congregation. The Church also played a crucial role in the assimilation of immigrants, especially from the Caribbean countries, into the local society. Luke’s is an inclusive congregation that seeks to follow the radical call of the Gospel within downtown New Haven.

🌸 GFS Love One Another Project 🌸

Our girls are putting faith into action by creating toiletry care kits for men, women, and children in need! 🧴💙

We’re also calling on all former GFS members — come volunteer with us on Saturday, November 1st as we pass out supplies and spread love through service. 💫

If you’d like to donate items or help volunteer, comment below or reach out to Michelle Royster or Donna Johnson for more details. Let’s show our community that love in action makes a difference. 💕

Dear Parish Family:

We are delighted to share that the official photos from our 180th Anniversary Gala are now available!

The evening was a beautiful celebration of our church’s legacy—a moment to honor our past, embrace our present, and look forward with hope and faith. We are deeply grateful to each of you who joined us and helped make the night so memorable.

A special thank you goes to Tyrell Reid Sr., our talented photographer and videographer, who captured the joy, elegance, and spirit of the occasion so beautifully. His eye for detail and storytelling through images has given us a gallery we’ll cherish for years to come.

You can view and download the photos at the following link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Zt7nJE2pg7b1d8Ls5

Feel free to share them with friends, family, and fellow parishioners who may have attended or supported us from afar.

Thank you again for being part of this historic milestone. May we continue to walk in faith together as we build upon this strong foundation for generations to come.

Warmly,
The Executive Board of St. Luke's 180th Anniversary Committee

Today we celebrate and honor the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and all the men of faith who lead with love, strength, and Godly wisdom. Your presence, prayers, and guidance are a true blessing to our church family and to the next generation.

At the same time, we lovingly hold space for those for whom this day is tender — for those who have lost fathers, never knew them, or carry complicated stories. May God’s comfort and peace rest upon every heart today.

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” — Proverbs 20:7

Below is a special photo of the wonderful men who gathered with us in worship this morning along with Rev. Judith Alexis. May God continue to strengthen and bless each of you!

What a beautiful finale to our 180th Anniversary Spirit Sunday series!

Thank you to each and every one of you who came out this morning for our final Spirit Sunday and helped close this chapter with such joy and love. It’s been an incredible series of celebratory themed Sundays as we’ve honored 180 years of faith, fellowship, and community.

To everyone who has shown up throughout the year—whether once or for every Spirit Sunday—thank you for being a part of this sacred journey. Your presence and participation have meant the world.

A special thank you to all who joined us today in decorating flower pots with such creativity and intention. It was a joy to see your artistic spirits in full bloom! We hope the seeds you took home serve as a reminder of the growth and renewal that spring brings—and that you feel inspired to plant them with that same spirit in your hearts.

As we look ahead, we’re excited to gather once more for our 180th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Purchase your tickets, mark your calendars, dress your best, and get ready to celebrate in style. It will be a night to remember!

With gratitude and anticipation,
Your 180th Anniversary Committee Executive Board

Happy Mother’s Day St. Luke’s Family!

Today, we honor and celebrate all the mothers in our parish — those who have raised children, those who are raising others through love and care, and those who embody the spirit of motherhood in countless beautiful ways.

We also hold space for those for whom this day is tender: those who have lost mothers, mothers who have lost children, those who yearn to be mothers, and those navigating complicated relationships. You are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone.

May this day be filled with grace, peace, and the reminder that in every season, God is near to the brokenhearted and rejoices with those who rejoice.
